V3 what an Awesome Machine and first day finds

Just added the Spectrum V3 to my detector stable ... along side the DFX..
The changes to the V3 are great and makes navigation and target identification a welcome improvement to the DFX.
First day out in an area that I have hunted with the DFX I turned up a gold cross, three mercury dimes, a boy scout medal and a brass door knob. The analysis function allows me to pass over targets that I would have dug with DFX.

Good Job Whites!

It looks like you are off to a good start with the V3, welcome to the Forum.

I'd suggest you recover some of those targets the Analyze display hints for you to ignore. Get to know it well.

Also, work with an assortment of search coils. The Analyze 'mode' can certainly be useful, but the operator must make use of it properly. Make sure the search coil is off to the side of the located target when you toggle into Analyze. Pause, briefly, before sweeping the target. Make sure you've centered the target with the coil sweep.

Also, I found that I had better information and more accurate analyzing results when I used a concentric coil, especially a smaller coil. The DD Shooter Eclipse coil and 5.3 Eclipse concentric coil performed well, and the 950 was also a bit better than the 10" DD and an a 10X12 SEF. Granted, these were MY results, and from the trashy renovation site that I was hunting, but they were things I learned.

Keep in mind that the Analyze display, like the visual TID and VDI references and Spectragraph all all just 'tools' and we have to make the final dig/no-dig judgement call. The V3 is different from the XLT and DFX, to be sure. Have the patience to learn it well, and remember, there is no such thing as a "perfect detector."

Have you dug any of the targets you passed up to see what you are missing..not detecotr is 100%

Borderline "no dig" has been yeilding good stuff for me as frequently as solid info. If a third of the readings/info is good and repeating...dig. (Mostly happens in a little tougher soil with close to stock settings.) With the V, I'm realizing how much extreme variation there is in soil around here. (Just below Mt. Rainer) Once I learn to easily recognize and adjust quick...expecting much better results than with previous equipment.
