Hey busman. Look in that manual and figure out which programs were changed, factory restore them and you are set. Hammered are no different than any other target and can easily be adjusted for. Don't give up, just learn that machine. Some fellow Brits are important regulars here and should be along shortly!

In two weeks with my V3i I found more hammereds in Germany than in years with my T2 and Omega! I don't focus on hammereds though. Post your email and I can send you some proven programs. But the key is really getting your recovery speed very fast - (slow delay) and opening up your discrimination.

You just have to adjust it for our settings. Some recommendations off the top of my head:

3 frequency will usually work fine, but through testing I have noticed that the 22 Hz frequency is best. The VDI on hammereds is usually around 5 to 30, 15 average FOR me.

In iron you have to increase your recovery speed. With the 6X10 coil I run mine at between 20 and 32 for hammereds. The stock coil will work, I found 2 my first time out but it's not the best coil in heavy iron. The smaller coils do better in iron of course. I also found hammereds in HEAVY iron with the 5" excellerator, though the 4X6 would be good too. The 6X10 is probably the best coil for hammereds.

Don't run any discrim. You can put the iron tone on 5, or 0 for a quiet hunt. (If you discrim the small iron out it will hurt you.)

Correlate seems to help some in iron!

Bury a hammered with iron near it and find the best filter for your soil. Also, go through the other settings and adjust for the best response. Ground Balance often when changing settings.

Download the advanced posts book I posted here. It has a lot of tips for dealing with iron as well as some tips for European conditions.

Check for programs over at Gary's and Roger's Relics.

Good luck,
EMS
