v3 owners opinion wanted

Hi all, The v3 has been out for a while. Alot of people replaced there whites detectors(dfx, xlt etc.)with the v3. Just wondering what everybodys opinion is on what you gained on depth and also has your finds increased? any pros or cons over your previous detector? thank you for your input.

All pros and very few cons over the DFX for me. Depth is noticeably deeper but can't say just how much for sure and my finds seems to be about the same per hunting outing. One noticeable difference is my trash recovery has taken a huge nose dive.

The V3 has forced me to take my time and also dig more of the unusual numbers, which I would have passed over with my DFX. Having so many analize options open,it more than peaks one's curiosity as to what lies beneath. I have been pleasantly surprised quite often at the accuracy of the V3 and it's ability to pinpoint to the smallest bits. I once found a plastic very faded shamrock brooch, the only metal part left was a partial brass straight pin! This was buried 7 inches. How it got down that far still puzzles me. To me,the Dfx is an excellent metal detector for finding coins fast, the V3 is a whole new level that opens up a world that you just would scan right over. It takes that detecting from a hunt...to an experience~! I've had my unit now almost a year and it's still a learning curve with great pleasure.

Had the XLT and DFX. The V has better sensitivity, better "lock-on" with one sweep and offers a lot more TID info. Depth, even at low Gain, is very good (sensitivity, filter, delay, discrimination, audio and coil/sweep used will dictate most of the machine's behavior). I miss DC Phase on the search screen. Ground Probe can do the same basic function with a few button pushes. I feel more confident with the V than its predescessors. My finds have gone up and some of them have come from places I hunted hard with the DFX. If there is something you don't like about the V, you can most likely change it to fit your preferences...some folks are setting up the V to mimic other machines...there is very little you can't change on this machine.

I really would never go back, but with that said Nancy could not be pried away from her MXT with a crowbar . We all are different, try one. Great answers guys. Rob

So true Rob. So VERY true. I love my MXT.

i bought a whites v3 after being away from metal detecting since the 6000 di series 3 coinmaster. im considerably older now . when i first got it last sept i went out for 2-3 days and couldnt find much of anything. a few coins here and there. i like lots of other people figured the coil was bad, the machine was a lemon .. etc. etc. everything but me. haha. i figured i paid that kind of money and it should find and dig by itself. well with the help of the great guys and gals on the forum and lots of reading i am really amazed. almost everywhere ive hunted has been heavily hunted and yet i always come back with something. the analyze mode helps with digging less trash once understood.. my biggest problem was going to fast and running to hot. everyday i figure out a little more. thanks to guys like larry,, neil from jersey and tons of others who add their bits of wisdom ive found a couple hundred dollars worth of coins , toys, 6 rings 14k bracelet ,, even a small sterling silver setting with a 2ct cz,, just amazes me what we find,, and thats in the snowey north where we cant dig year round. i was very tentative at buying 1 in that range but to date can only say im glad i did. it may take a long time to pay it off but the enjoyment i get using it is worth it to me. at first it can be overwhelming, but with the great videos and numerous turn on and go programs it should be no problem to find things. just keep gain down where machine is stable and proceed slowly from there. goodluck hope this helps

Although the V3 can be used right out of the box with some minor adjustments, it is an ongoing learning experience with the V3. Within a month or two after I got my DFX, I felt like I had mastered it. I am not sure if one can ever totally master the V3. It seems there is always another thing you can do to customize it more.

As far as finds go, it seems that I find silver on nearly every single outing. It may just be timing/location but I am definitely finding a lot more keepers with the V3. As for depth, I switched to the 950 coil and it has made a big difference for me.

I recently posted a silver dime I found with the V3 in my own yard, about 8 inches down. I am sure that I went over the spot with the DFX last summer because I found other coins a foot away with it. The DFX missed this one. I don't know why as I found plenty of dimes deeper than that with the DFX. It may have been on its side or conditions may have simply been better. But the V3 sang out when it went over it! There was little doubt that I had a silver coin under the coil on this one, even though the VDI was jumpy.

I am also finding more very deep tiny targets such as cuff buttons.

I am not saying the V3 is a perfect metal detector; sometimes I do get a bit more frustrated with it than I did with my DFX, but overall I think it finds more stuff more often and gives more info allowing you to make better decisions whether or not to dig.

And thanks for the kudos Johno!

For guys just getting a V, location, location, location. I'll never get some of the finds Neil gets because we don't hunt in the same area of the country. Keep this in mind. The same with depth claims, the ground we hunt in is a limiting factor. This is why earlier I tried to get people to have their location in their signature. Just because people get a 10" dime in Florida doesn't mean you will. In my ground I don't use TX Boost, others use it all the time.

Trying to use others programs can lead to problems because you are not hunting in the same conditions, you need to experiment.

Big bump up in convenience (interface is the bomb), depth, and not dealing with near the amount of trash. Jewelry to hours count is through the roof......compared to my DFX and XLT. I'm making solid gains in learning it...... but others (with more time) are really starting to rock this box! Really glad I committed to the V3.

Downsides would be that it takes a little extra work to learn how to deal with EMI. I've been going back and re-detecting places that I just didn't know how to adjust to. All coils are doing well now and finding stuff missed with the DFX!
(Upside to this is... the learning of this helped me, exponentially, in so many other adjusting skills.) Not looking back.

...due to the 16 feet of snow we had here in NJ ! HA !

Always interested in your opinions of the V3 since you did very well with the DFX.

I didn't get the Vision/V3 to replace anything I already had. I added to what I had.
It was new, the frequencies, color display, what it displays, wireless headphones, aw heck, might as well get one see what it's like - kind of thing. It was just interesting.
Although I haven't found as much silver, and that's because I been using it in spots I already mostly worked with other detectors, I am surprised that I picked more nickles out of those spots than I would have thought.
And although I basically hunt by audio, I do find the display intriguing. Kind of adds a fun factor to a display.
Really like the wireless headphone feature.
