v3 nickel id

From the posts ive read the v3 sniffs out the Nickels well. What is the ratio of aluminum to nickels dig rate for you. Would you say
2 to1 or 5 to1 or...... thanks.

Depends on the day and where you are hunting. In parks or athletic fields where there is can slaw, you dig more slaw. Where people don't leave an abundance of trash, ie: aluminum cans, you dig more nickles. I can only say, I've dug a higher percentage of nickles with the new White's than with any other machine.

I agree with Jimmyk. I am finding more nickles with the V3 than I did with the DFX. Mine are coming in at a fairly stable VDI of 19. If you only did VDI's around 19 than your percentage will be higher than if you VDI's a little further out (+-) than 19.

I second (or third) that notion. I also notice that nickels are consistently 19. So far, anything lower tends to be foil, anything higher tends to be a pulltab.

I found a nice 1926 buffalo nickel in one of the local parks just a couple of days ago. :)

I find that most nic's will ID at 19-20s, but not all, especially the deeper/older ones. I will dig deeper signals from 17 to 22 often yielding an older nic slanted or on edge. Sure, sometime junk, but most 6" deep or deeper targets are worth investigating.

I get a lot of nickles up around 21 (no higher). Very rarely lower than 19, but then you're getting into the gold wedding band area. You do get a pop top once in a while, as well as some deep older pulltabs, but tha'ts how it works. As my father in law used to say "You pays your money and you takes your chances"

My nickels are most at VDI 19, and have that strong solid tone with them. with the little time I have with the V3, I'M already confident that I'M digging a nickel.

If I get a 19 it has been a nickel, but as Larry said if you aren't digging the numbers a little higher and lower you are passing on some nickels. I've got my ID tones blocked. My penny, dime, quarter all read the same high tone. I've got 18 - 20 at the same tone as them and 17 and 21 reading just a little lower. Having used an MXT finding nickels is no big deal. HH Rob
