How can i tell how mutch Gain to use on mineralized ground???? V3 used to tell you a suggested Gain The V3-i wont???? Mickfin

My way ,is if after GB ing in good clean ground, hold waste high if it chatters and carries on back off the TX till it get quiet. Then re GB after checking to see if it is quiet in air go to the ground if it falses a lot or still makes noise on the ground I then back off the Disc A couple #'s at a time till its where you like it. Then I Check the GB again. and go hunting

The V3i works just like all other detectors Mic, turn it up until you lose stability and back it down a little until it is as quiet as you are comfortable with.

I have found that the RX Gain and the Discriminate Sensitivity have two totally different symptoms when they are set too high. Discriminate Sensitivity will give a lot of chatter when held at waist level when set too high. This is not necessarily true with RX Gain. When RX Gain is set too high you will get a lot of false signals while sweeping the coil over the ground, but not necessarily while held in the air.

I tend to keep the RX a bit high to the point where it does false occasionally. I can generally tell the good signals by the hum of the All Metal channel in the Mixed Mode. No hum means no good target... False signals will not sound in Mixed Mode.

You are right Neal, I still get it mixed up on the V3 but know which to adjust. liked it better when it was Preamp ,AC and DC. Yazoo

Me too yazoo AC-DC Mickfin

I have my Gain at 4 and the Disc sensitivity also at 4, And let The V3 do it's magic, I still get good Depth, but with a very stable machine, with solid VDI Numbers. I also ran this at a wet sand salt beach with good results .......... Don't be afraid to turn down the gain/sensitivity below the factory settings on the V3.

I run with RX at 11 and the Disc Sensitivity around 91! I am surprised you get any depth at 4. That is low enough to detect indoors!

I must have some bad ground, as using the stock settings (for my ground or EMI) turns The V3 into a out of control Arcade Machine, and my VDI numbers bounce all over The world. For my type of park hunting 6-8 inches is good enough for me. If the ground is wet I will get an extra inch or so

I have played with the gain/sensitivity settings and did not have very good luck (so far) running The V3 on the edge, for my type of ground & Hunting.

I also was getting deep dime hits, that turned out to be crusted zinc's?...... Running The V3 on The Edge .......But Running at my low settings, I can ID a zinc 9 out 10 times, but still getting great depth

I just need to dig another 900 targets to get to know even V3 better.

Forget what everyone else is using and use what works best for you Rob, that's why we have so much adjustability.

Thanks 4R all the Info, Im in Ca also Ron Loa Banos Ca wear in Ca do you Live Ron, Mickfin

Sounds like you understand your ground conditions as well as your coil characteristics for what you search for.
Great post!
