V3 and digging junk....

Old Katz

New member
I had asked in another post about the V3 and its ability to bypass the junk.
From what I gather all the fancy stuff on the V3 doesn't make any difference; your
going to dig about the same amount of junk as with any other detector? I had hoped for a larger response.

Let me ask the question this way and I realize its a leading question but: Do you find that you dig less junk
or about the same amount as with any other detector?

Depends on weather or not I'm digging drunk.:beers:

The ancer is stright up V3s dig junk to??? I tryed to pass the junk today and I left the iffys behined but still got some JUNK, Mickfin

Anything less that 6" can usually be determined by the vdi and frequency it hits on. But can slaw and pull tabs will always be dug with a vlf. I can go out and cherry pick if I want, but I may be missing high value targets that fall into the pull tab range.

I dig everything that's tight in on a central VDI average for a good target. I like digging this stuff because I know I'm doing things right.

I dig same amount because I dig every repeatable signal. I don't even know why I have the VDI except to attempt to predict the future. Most gold jewlery shows up all up and down the junk scale. I only dig selectively occassionally when cherry picking for silver then I only dig VDI above 60.

Old Katz,
As you know I used an MXT for quite a few years. I saw no reason to get a DFX. Now with the information the V3 gives me I could dig less trash then the MXT when I want to. With the 3 frequency mode I don't need more than the Spectrograph and pin point screen. No one with no detector can find gold and valuable relics without digging trash. That's because besides being in the trash range their VDI vary. Did you wonder why silver rings are easy to find? It's because they share the same range as coins. Rob

That's right RC. If you want to find the real valuables, you're gonna have to work for it.
