V-nickel with F75

I will repeat, the F75 loves nickels. I haven't been out yet that I didn't find nickels. Before F75, a nickel was somewhat rare.

Today I took the F75 back by an old homesite that I use as a proving grounds for detectors these days. I've had every detector I've owned except the XLT over this yard, including 2 Explorers (XS and SE), Nautilus 2Ba, Excaliber, DFX, and a CZ3D. My hunting partner has been over it with a DFX and MXT.

I went on a short hunt the day after I received the F75 and found 2 wheats on ground that had been hammered.

Today after coming up to speed on the F75 I decided to go back. I went with the intention of seeing how deep the F75 would find stuff. In a 15 foot square area I decided to see if I could find anything else with the F75. I previously pulled some mercs and a 1909 Barber Quarter out of the same area. The yard has quite a bit of iron in it.

I first get a one way high tone and dig and it's a Wheat. It was at 8". That is pretty good depth in this ground and that was what I was thinking. Next, I get high chirp that I hear repeatedly but not on every sweep. On the meter it is hitting between 22 and 26. I pinpoint and it indicates 10". I decide to dig and it gets a little better with the plug out, but still a very "dirty" signal (no pun). I probe around in the hole with the Periscope and finally find something, but deeper than what I would think was 10".

I dig down further and the Lesche handle is about 2" below the top of the hole and I finally see a green crusted coin. It is a 1906 V nickel. I'm thinking "Man the F75 gets good depth!"

Next, I get another repeatable chirp. This time it is another wheat down 10". Last I get a very nasty high tone and pinpoint says 6". I run the periscope in and find a piece of slag about 4" down. I try again and this time pinpoint is over about 5" and the signal is solid. and 6" down is another Wheat.

My settings were Sensitivity 90, Disc 2, 4H, Mode DE. This is very noisy when there is any iron or trash around. But, I feel like the depth is there when set up this way.

I can't seem to be able to get set up with a older site that I haven't already hit. I'll be working at that later this week. I guess I'll have to find a place where they don't mind if I dig holes that are a foot deep.

Wow Alton Great digg'in! What is "Disc 2, does that mean little or
no Discrimination in that mode?

Boy I better go back to my proving ground and do as you did.:clapping:

Yes, Discrimination is default at 10, I ran it down to 2.

Some seem to think that less discrimination will increase depth, or at least that has been the thinking in the past. I don't know if it applies to newer detectors, but it didn't hurt to try.
