V nickel and some civil war relics with the 70

7centsworth

Got out today to the same place I have been going the last three or four times I have went hunting. I found a 18?5 v nickel, eagle button, [that is the third eagle button I have found at this small spot]several pieces of lead one real big. A couple of enfields. A really old marble it was in the hole with a target I dug. I"m not sure what the coin shape object is under the eagle button. Also found a couple whats it. I had to make a pattern three custom because this place is so trashy loaded with trash. I barely heard the enfield in with trash.

Congrat's on the CW finds.

Here is something that might help you to see the date a lil better on the V nickel. Clean it up the best you can with soap and water. After it's dry put a lil cooking oil on it and then wipe a lil off and then see if that helps you to see the third number. some times you have to let it set a few hours.

If it's a 1885 then you have a key date V nickel, that's the best year of all the V's. After your done you can always wash the oil off with warm soap and water. A lot of times I just wipe it down really good with a towl.

Nice finds, and Merry Christmas Travis...

Congrats on the V!
And that's another interesting assortment of do-dads you dug.
Is that one in the second pic a bugle mouthpiece? They came in a variety of styles, and it's length is about right too.

I did a search for CW bugle mouthpieces and turned this up. Yours looks very similar to the first one.

I thought it was when I seen it in the hole but it is connected to iron. Talking about an iffy signal.

What did the bullet register

These billets were all over. They had iron almost touching them all around. Most of the minies I dig are in the 30's.
