Using pinpoint sizing

Pinpoint sizing can be a valuable tool to help you determine if you want to dig or not, especially in separating trash from a possible good target. I am getting pretty good at separating nickels from can slaw in the same range. Unfortunately the pinpoint sizing is not very accurate in the normal mode, it shows the target larger than what it really is making a mental image of the size of the target difficult at best.

Solution: The CTX like most other detectors with pinpoint will "ratchet" or detune if you keep the coil over the target and click the pinpoint trigger once or twice which will narrow the footprint down to more like what the size of the target is. I usually click twice and can trace the outline of the target a lot better and I can usually tell if the target is round (nickel) or oblong (trash). The dreaded beaver tail is still a challenge but I have noticed the beaver tail will often sound softer than a nickel unless it is a folded beaver tail.

Thanks for the tip I have noticed the sound is stronge on a nickel and the traget trace will not lock on as strong on trash. I will try what you suggest on the pinpoint thanks again!

Thanks Larry. I'll give that a try next time I'm about to dig up another squashed pop can. It would be fantastic if pinpoint drew a picture of the target on the screen for us.
