Using MXT in "HOT" Northern Virginia Soil ?

Cajuncoinhunter

Planning ahead for a possible DIV hunt in Mar '12. I've heard a lot of mixed comments regarding the use of non Pulse type detectors in the 'hot' mineralized soil around the Culpepper VA area. Dont have that problem here in LA. From experience, has anyone used the MXT / MXT Pro at one of the DIV hunts? Looking for some no BS feedback. Some people say the MXT is ok and others say not a good choice for that soil. ??? I do have a friend who will loan me his TDI if needed so......

Any feedback is much appreciated.

CCH.

I have heard a lot of good comments about the MXT in DIV for a VLF detector, but if you can get a TDI, do it, there is nothing better in that ground EJ.

I used to live in Culpeper and I have used my MXT in Culpeper, Orange, Madison, and Richmond, VA with no trouble. To get deep you need to use a DD coil. I use the 10"DD when I relic hunt, and I run the Gain wide open (+3), and the Discrimination at 2. Turn the Threshold to where you can just barley hear it. Deepest Target I have dug is a Belt Plate at 10". It was in Richmond in a field so mineralized that the guys I was hunting with don't like to hunt it, and they call it the crazy field. (It's that bad). The plate was at 10" and the signal was loud with a VDI of 78. You use a 10"DD and run it wide open and you will do as well as anyone there. I've hunted a lot of places in Culpeper and the surrounding area and I wouldn't tell you this if I hadn't. I would very confident with the MXT in Culpeper. I don't think I will ever own any other machine. HH

I used my MXT PRO at DIV XVII in April and the one comment I can make is to dig everything. The first day and a half I was only looking for the high tones then I decided to dig a low tone and it was a bullet. That is very hot ground. I was in one field digging high tones for bullets at 8" deep and then walk about 50 feet into the next field and the bullets were low tones about 3" deep. Once I started to dig all targets my finds increased. Also there are a lot of people there that will help you set your machine to what works best. They really helped me out. Also if you can borrow the TDI I would highly recommend it and use the MXT as a back up. I will be using my PRO again now that I have a little more experience on it. I hope to meet you there as I plan on attending as well. I am already signed up for the hunt this November.

You will note when you go that almost 90% of the people have gone to PI machines now. Most are using the TDI. There are still people using VLFs but there is no denying the power and impact the PIs have made. The MXT with DD coils are what they swing if they must use it. Take the Brandy Rock farm for example. Before the PI detector craze, there had already been a few DIVs held on the farm. Finds were still being made by were getting scarce. One would have assumed the place was hunted out. When we came back there for the special PI hunt...good night man at what we dug that had been missed. Was like virgin ground again. I myself dug over 100 drops on that hunt and 20 or so buttons and other odds and ends. Hunted with the TDI. The next hunt was at Coles Hill and I had been there on the first hunt with my VLF...done well on the first hunt. Went back the second hunt with the TDI. Hunted the same ground for 3 days....that I had worked out with the VLF. Dug 140 something bullets, a breastplate, and a dozen buttons and other assorted brass. I was totally shocked.

Hey Cajun - I used the MXT Pro with the 10" DD at DIV 17. Do NOT use the 12" Super coil. I did ok, found a half dozen bullets/musket balls, a rosette, and part of a sword hand guard. Also found one Eagle button and one New York button. I'd only had my machine about six months and this was my first DIV. I was NOT digging every signal, only high tones. But I might change that strategy if/when I go back. However, if I were you, I would take the F75 too. As you know, the Teknetics T2 is similar technology and I know someone who did EXTREMELY well with the T2 at DIV 17 - they dug scores of targets.
