Using Iron Tone 0 and Threshold

I filmed this earlier today as I have recently stopped using iron tone 5 and switched to iron tone 0 plus threshold. Notice that the VDI numbers still appear even when a signal is not heard (just the threshold nulling). I don't know if it's a coincidence but my only two hunts with this method have been my best, though at a new site.

The way this works is that the threshold will drop out over iron (or where ever the tone is set to zero). So, instead of listening for an iron tone, you rather listen for the threshold to null out (go quiet). This is another way for me to hunt. I don't know that it is better but it sure is quieter and yet I still get a pretty good idea of where the iron is.

I also had a zero tone on the lower VDI numbers and the iron (negative VDI) was really doing the nulling after I moved 90 degrees, not initially. I misspoke initially, But you get my point.

My Rx was at 8, Disc at 90, Filter 5 Band, recovery delay 42, ground had next to no mineralization but was at -91 (decent amount of iron), EMI in the air. Was also running correlate with a span of 35.

Note - For those who might start filming. The V3i is great for as you can see, your speaker can be set for a higher threshold volume and the speak automatically comes on once the headphones are turned off. Really a nice set up. I'll post some pictures of my video "arm". I really think I found the perfect setup if you like filming the screen for educational reasons as well as rotating the camcorder fairly easily.

Wow that unit is sure complex, well compared to what I have been using.

I see you also own a omega 8000-thats cool because i been looking into a whites vx3 or a Omega.
I am sure I can get the VX3 for a good price,,be dealer has to get back to me,he has one and if its a demo will be cheap.

I was wondering if you could tell me a little about hte 2.The Omega looks way easier to operate but how welll can you interpret trash form good with it.The Vx3 has the spectra graph and I enjoed the spectra graph on my eagle spectrum.

Im guessing the omega use's VDI numbers and symbols/words to ID-maybe some differant tones. Is it VCO or hits hard on all signals like the bounty hunter mode's do.

Any advice be great-there both very good units just the omega is so light/ergonomic

Yeah, the Omega is a turn and go machine and as you said is light and perfectly balanced. The VX3 is not that complex imo. If you hunt the same spots you will probably settle on a few settings. I always run the 5 band filter, my recovery delay stays about the same and really all of my settings have settled in for the most part. That said, I still like to play with the settings as when you go deeper the machine gets more powerful.

The Omega is a great machine and won't miss many coins to be honest. I got the V3i because I like to play with settings some and also because I wanted the extra depth. An Omega can get a silver quarter at maybe 9" (I would guess) and I've seen too many people dig them at 12"-14" with the V3i. I have found deeper targets with the V3i but not really coins yet. I just don't think I've passed over any that were available deep considering the usual heavy iron.

Yes, the Omega uses VCO and I actually like that but I have been spoiled by how I can adjust the tones on the V3i. To me I have fun just playing with the settings and seeing what they do, in addition to finding the coins. I could find more if that was my goal, but it's the journey for me, not so much the destination (unless it's silver!)

As far as trash, yeah, the V3i will help you sort through some of it, but you will still dig it, though less than with the Omega. Also, the V3i is nice in that you can adjust it for how you want to hunt. The Omega you can't do much with it but that isn't that bad in some ways. I just like trying stuff out so the V3i is more my way. But, if you have a sensitive back then the V3i can be a bit much. I run it with my sensitive back but the bigger stock coil is a bit hard for me after 1 or 2 hours (though I'm getting more used to it.)

If I ever get another machine it will have to have analysis features as the V3i has just spoiled me. I mostly just use the polar plot and pinpoint as analysis and that is pretty much enough for me. I'm not a gold hunter, which is where the V3i also excels.

Hope that was helpful,
EMS
