Using IDX Pro, getting MXT - any tips?

I've been using an IDX Pro which I'm very happy with, but had the chance to pick up a used MXT so I took the plunge. It should arrive shortly.

What would an IDX user need to know to ease into using the MXT ? Stuff like, is it better to swing the MXT faster or slower than an IDX? Is there a basic setting for the MXT to get started with that is close to the "turnon & go" defaults for the IDX?

Thanks for any advice.

You will find your IDX better in trash but the MXT shines in most other hunting situations.I have both and they complement each other well. The MXT does not average targets and may null out on trash which creates a masking problem.Higher gain actually helps speed up response and recovery times so go as high as you reasonably can.Sweep slower than you would with the IDX.The MXT target ID is a joy to ring hunters .Happy hunting!!

Hi Bill,

I would suggest you start out with and get used to the coin/jewelry mode at first. Its the best way to get a feel for finding the proper sweep speed and sensitivity settings for a site. It might be a bit intimidating at first especially if you are not used to a sensitive high gain detector with threshold based audio but its time well spent learning it that way IMO.

Thanks to all for the help. I just noticed that there is a separate MXT forum on here! (Doh..!)
I'd been locked into the main forum here all this time and never wandered further. I browsed the MXT forum and got some knowledge from prior posts there also.

Maybe I should have put my original post over on the MXT board. Pleasantly surprised to get responses here, though.

Yes, I think the IDX and the MXT will make a great combo...
