using 4x6

yesterday i walked a foot ball field with a 4x6 ,not too productive ,but a lot of good exorcise. 3.10 cents and a religious medal. It wasn't any different except ,possibly losing depth. my width of swing was the same and still had fun. Am i nuts and should i do it again or is it a waste of time for 2 hrs of detecting.

Not a waste of time, think of it as a light work out, I had a DFX with the 10DD in the park found few clad, switched to the MXT with small coil found more clad. Stepping onto 5 acres of sod with a small coil is daunting, a David and Goliath thing or would you bring a knife to a gun fight, see all sides of your situation positivity, at least your out there.

In my 2 cents worth,dont think your nuts but is alot of area for 4x6 coil...if you had gain up to +1 or+2 i think you probaly reached maximum depth...otherwise I have found that by cranking it up I seem to get another inch or so, I might redo quickly in relic mode and switch back and forth between that and jewelry mode to determine item..I have same coil and i like it alot in trashy areas even open areas like that to hone in on just one signal...Curt.

I love the 4X6 for heavy trash, tot lots and the like, but don't know as it would be my first choice to take on a football field. If I were taking on a large area with the 4X6 that seemed promising, regardless of size, I would probably mark it into smaller grids and hunt each grid very deliberately in order to be sure that I'd covered it well before moving on. I have taken on fairly large areas with the 5.3 and the 6X10 with good results, however. My two bits.

i have never tried the relic mode,because i didn't want to miss out on small gold,i may be wrong but i thought jewelry mode is the only way to find jewlery.,i may change but tones to my mind take half the fun outa detecting,thanks for your input JIM

You can find the sane items in any mode you just have to know the vdi # or close to it. I feel that I get better depth in relic mode.
