user preferences for explorer II

Outdoors12

New member
I'm a fairly new user of the explorer II and wondered if anyone could pass on advice how to choose and maximize the following user preferences (rules of thumb)? I plan on hunting newer & older trashy parks and a couple of 1870's houses in clay soil here in Ohio.

Semi-auto vs manual?
sensitivity?
threshold? (I may use just a barely audible, but do not want to miss deep silver)
discrimination? (I may use "clear" to avoid nulling in surface trash)
audio vol gain?
audio th tone lowest?
audio tone variability? (I may use 10 since I use sound alot)
options response: normal, aud 1, 2 or 3?
recovery fast?
recovery deep?

Thanks in advance!
Bob

Try Mike Moutray's program settings.... I believe they are on the Explorer forum ....... page 40 or 41 ( give or take a page ) ,.
They work Oh so well ........Bill

Send some pm's to people if you want...and ask them what they think might work. We all have our settings that work for each of us...but might not work for everyone else.

I can give you some settings that in '09 alone found me 10 seated dimes...a key date 1877 indian head...a seated half...and a key 1916D mercury dime...just to name a few of the better coins.

However...you may try those same settings and want to wrap your EX2 around a tree:bouncy:

We all have preferences as to what our ears like to hear..so while settings may work well for me in my area...they might not work at all for you at your sites and in your soil.

Lot's of hunters here on the forums that can give you some tips and settingsthat work for them...then you can mess with the settings until you find some that work for you.:beers:

Well said Bryce ..... It is frustrating to find out when you are new , like me, that there is no "One Magical Program " for the Explorer and that so many folks run so many different settings and still they all find good stuff ..:rage:...... I tried one recommendation and got so frustrated..... then tried Mikes and it was like my machine started talking a language I could understand much better ....... Would you be so kind to PM me those settings you offered to Mr. Outdoors 12 ....... I have an Explorer XS ......
Thanks in advance .:please:.... Bill

Mikes advice on the adjustments gave my EX2 much needed stability, as some of my settings caused falsing like crazy.
Thank you very much!

Sorry for asking so many questions in one post; I will limit to one topic from now on also. There are so many helpful people willing to share so much valuable advice; thanks again and glad to be part of Findmall!!!

Bryce,

Could I possibly get your settings that work for you? Also, since it is winter time, I was thinking of setting up a mini test bed; a clear plastic container (or just a plastic planter), with a dime and a rusty nail separated on the bottom, filled with dirt from my yard (1873 house site). Do you think this would work, and at what depth? I would try to use this to test the various settings... Thank you very much.

Semi-auto vs manual When lazy, Semi-Auto, when more in the 'programming mood', manual. What ever is stable. Semi-Auto set at max; 31.

sensitivity: Se above. Usually about 18 in Manual as I can't go much higher in my areas where I MD.

threshold? I use just a barely audible tone

discrimination? Use little to nothing; max 3 bars Iron mask should take out most iron.

audio vol gain: Audio - Normal most of the time, When relic hunting in Iron use Audio 3. Vol - What ever is good with your ears. Gain - 8-10

audio th tone lowest? What you hear best and/or prefer.

audio tone variability? I prefer 10

options response: Audio - Normal most of the time, When relic hunting in Iron use Audio 3

recovery fast -OFF
recovery deep? -ON

Kind regards,
Eu
