User instructions for Sovereign GT

David Barnett

New member
Just reached the tender age of 70 and got a Sovereign GT from my children . Wow! what a present. But Wow! what complicated instructions. I thought statistical thermodynamics at university was thought , but this takes the biscuit. Has anyoone produced some idiot proof instructions for this seemingly wonderful tool, or is there a forum or club for me to join. I live in the UK in the New Forest in Hampshire. We have wonderful medieval forests and lots of beaches nearby. Trust someone will come to my aid. Thanks in anticipation.

here in Ga,in the US i set my GTas follow's for salt beach hunting...both notch..off....disc on but set to 0....iron mask on...volume up as high as you like..run in fixed .and the most important ,sensitivity as high as you can run it without falsing ,i never run in auto tune! and last i always run in threshold so i can just barely here it.eather band is ok,just switch if you get noise from other detectors.this works for me.good luck Bling

Thanks Bling. Good of you to give me some guidance. Any books on the Sovereign GT that you know?
Best wishes from the UK to you.

yep CJC has some great ones out.i PM 'd you the addy!

FINDING GOLD, SILVER with the MINELAB SOVEREIGN & EXCALIBUR . There's a copy on feebay right now but I don't know if they will ship to the UK

Looks like we're in the same boat Dave. I just got my GT a few days ago. Lotsa' detector to learn...
Until now, I've been running a White's Prizm IV.
Hang in there. I'm sure we'll be swinging like pros in no time. Look at the bright side, if you don't learn it through the summer, the GT will do great on the beach (weather permitting) in the winter.

Thanks for your confidence. Just been out and plagued by aluminium foil and ringtops off cans. Now realise you can notch them out and so feel I have learned something useful.

Cheers

David

When you get used to it, you will ignore it. Something like the aquarium pump, the fridge, a fan, the a/c, barking dogs(if they are yours), screaming kids(if they are yours), other sounds that you hear all the time but tune out. Then there are the sounds that get your attention.

Don't notch out the foil and ringpulls as unfortunately you notch out the gold rings too, i always run notch to 0 and disc to 0, volume full, threshold just audiable and the sens up till it falses then back a touch. Switches, disc mode, iron mask on, threshold, band 1 or 2, the track doesn't work in disc mode so it doesn't matter, switch to pinpoint when necesary if needed, i just used the coil to home in with imaginary cross.
Then its just a mater of putting in the hours, if in doubt dig it out, especially on the beach

Kered, That's very reassuring and I will follow your suggestions. I'm in the New Forest in England and in spite of its name it is really old. I mean it was there for Willam the Conquerer and his hunting. You were executed if you killed the King's deer! So lots of history and should be lots of finds if I am lucky.

Regards

David
