User input needed, best insulated chest waders

Hello all,

Wondering if I can get some info from all of you who use chest waders. I've been looking online and there's so many bad reviews of so many different brands of insulated chest waders. Anyone have a preference of brand?

Thanks in advance

My preference is the neoprene waders, I like the stocking foot type with lace up wading boots. If the water is very cold wear a pair of sweat pants or long johns underneath. Cabella's has a good selection if no sport goods stores near you. Quality wader are not cheap.

Thanks,

Yea but neither are wetsuit/drysuits cheap either ;) Gonna get me a wetsuit next spring and take some diving courses. But till then the waters like 8-14C here in the ocean/lakes, was why I was looking at insulated ones.

at Gander Mountain. 5 mil. I also bought long trappers gloves that go up to your sholders with a elastic holding them up across your back. Thats when I am really getting sick of being stuck in the house.

Plan on going over-sized on all purchases to have room for thermals.

Add an over-sized "dry top" with seals at the neck and wrists and a draw string at the waist. (Bought mine at Dicks Sporting Goods.)

I have had water briefly get up to my chin and didn't get a drop into my waders!:clapping:

I wouldn't plan on doing that too often though, because the water will find its way in!!

If I had been wearing my gloves water would have flooded them!

Military surplus wool glove liners help keep my hands from getting too cold as long as I don't get water into my shoulder high rubber gloves.

Add a nylon rain hood and the above mentioned gloves to be as comfortable as is possible without getting into really big bucks,

Buy what you can afford in neoprenes, if possible at a sporting goods store near you--just in case they need to be returned if they start to leak or taped seams start to untape.
Watch for the ones with steel shanks in the boots, your detector will pick them up.

I picked up my 5mm neo chest waders at a garage sale--- $5.00, like new, used by owner to put in and take out their boat dock once a year.

Hmm I might try calling around to pawn shops as well. Lots of fly fishermen in this area.
