used MXT

Im buying a used MXT for $300. Its about two or three years old.
I tested it out today and want to know how long these MXT's last without any trouble. I put coins out on the grass and the MXT got everyone of them. We went to a park and the very first pass picked up a ground level quarter. It seem to work ok.

Next question: You can tell the MXT has need well used, with the usual dirt and scuff marks, but it doesn't look bad. It doesn't look NEW but it just looks like its been well used.

If I were to put this on Ebay as is with head phones bag, digger/trowl and DVD, what could I reasonably expect to get back. I think I want to get a NEW mxt.

Rob, I would say you got a very good deal. A well used MXT would be 400 plus dollars on ebay. If it is working correctly right now, with good care, who knows how long it should last. I have had several detectors that I put 500 to 600 hours on and they worked like new. R.L.

I use my MXT almost every day and I have over 1000 hours of use on it and it is still going strong. For the price you paid for yours I would hold onto it. Mike

Some users report White's machines still working after 30 years. At the price you got for it I would send it in for a tuneup (if you feel it needs it and then you know it is working tip top) and just use it. The problem with new is for me I don't want to wear the new off. A nice well used looking one is like an old friend, just right. If I am out in the desert and a rock rolls out from under me and the detector hits the ground hard, so what, it didn't look perfect to begin with. You have one of the most powerful, user friendly detectors out there and one of the best IMHO so don't sell it just use it. I have used White's and Minelabs top of the line including the SE. I went over ground I had hammered with the SE and pulled out better finds with the MXT much to my surprise I don't mind telling you. Just my 2 cents.

I've had my MXT for more than 4 yrs. now and it's still in tip top shape. I wouldn't even want to know how many hours I've got in her. My husband and I would spend day after day hunting. I'm off during the summers and we would be out daily if weather permitted. It's a great machine. So my advice........USE IT. You wouldn't be able to find one that cheap and if you were to get it scuffed, no big deal. If at any time that you feel it needs a "tune-up", send it in. It's not all that much and will give you MANY years of wonderful detecting. I've not had any problems with my MXT, but my husband has sent his DFX in and I want to say it was around $50. Not bad for having it overhauled. White's make a great line of detectors. Enjoy and keep us posted.

My MXT is coming up on its first fifth birthday and it looks pretty well used. I have banged it on trees, dropped it, sat it in mud and sand, fell while propped up on a tree more than once ( you would think I would learn) but it has never ever skipped a beat. Works as well today as the day I bought it. If it ever quits on me I will get another one!
