use of zap and notch modes

Hello all, I have a Bounty Hunter 2200 elite detector and I love it. I have found neat items including a civil war lead backed bridle rosette. I believe given the basic usefulness and ease of use of the detector I have combined with the use of a pin pointer, I am able to detect and recover items with relative ease. I do on occasions have to discriminate at least three bottom modes to eliminate caps foil etc. The only problem is, I may be eliminating some precious metals. Jeweley and such. The detector has both notch and zap modes. I read the instructions but they are not as specific as I require to be able to understand. I would like to use the detector in all metal mode and was wandering learning how to use the notch and zap modes would help me in that regard. Is there a you tube video or a specific web site that would be able to show me how. I am open to suggestions and help. I am going to heading to a secluded beach this weekend and I am told that it is not frequented by metal detector enthuziast. Anyway, thank you in advance and looking foward to the responses.

I have had an Elite 2200 for about three years and think is is the best for the money. I never use the notch or zap features. Gold can register anywhere from iron to zinc so if you want to eliminate everything but silver and copper, just beep on up the discrimination.

Thank you, I do not understand what you mean by beep on up the discrimination, unless I already to this and just did not know the term.:usmc:

I just set an "R" to everything "Zinc" and below. That will exclude all aluminum, gold, most iron (rusty iron sometimes appears as silver or copper) and zinc. You do that by pressing the DISC button then the up arrow (+) on the Discrimination. Since I want to find gold also, I seldom use this setting, whihc means I have to dig a lot of pulltabs and aluminum foil. Gold is NOT in a narrow band where you can exclude (Reject or discriminate) everything but gold.

Thanks, that is what I normaly do anyway. I figured that if I needed to find gold rings at the beach, I will be digging quite a bit. At least I have the proper digging tools. At schools parks etc. I normaly discriminate as you discribe except I utilize the zinc mode. Thanks and I will keep you up dated as to what I find this weekend.:usmc:

IN ALL TESTS GOLD SHOWS UP FROM 0 TO 100 OR EVEN LESS THAN 0 TO OVER 100
IT IS NOT PREDICTABLE
WITH MY BH OFTEN IT DOES NOT EVEN BEEP AS IT IS NOT A SENSITIVE MODEL
I GOT NO GOLD IN THE LAST FEW YEARS AT ALL OTHER THAN 1 EXTRA SMALL LIGHT RING
