My day was starting out kinda "laid back" as my first service call was at 9AM, so I picked up a cup of coffee and a muffin and parked at Pilgrim's Landing on the Ct River to enjoy a bit of scenery and peace and quiet.
Across from where I sat there is as small island (I don't know its name) about a 1/4 mile long with trees and brush that is a bird sanctuary. The island lies only a few hundred yards north of the Ct. River Bridge near the Old Lyme Marina.
As I sipped my Jo I decided to watch the ducks and geese across the water on the shore of the island with my old 8 power binoculars. While scanning the water line I noticed a flash of white in the trees and realized it was a Bald Eagle! They catch ones attention by the white of their head and neck plus the mass of their body below.
I watched as long as I could in hopes of seeing it fly, but it never left its perch until I was forced to leave.
This area marks the changing of the seasons by the migration of the eagles and Essex up river from the small island has eagle boat tours and celebrates their arrival each year.
I have seen them many times since I moved here over 40 years ago and I never fail to be fascinated with them.
I stopped back this AM to the parking spot to see if it might be back on its perch, but no such luck. I kinda hoped for a telephoto shot to share with you Friends, but it was about a half mile away and the little cameras I have access to don't capture much detail at that distance (I took a shot with each of them to try them out).
On the way home I saw a flock of wild turkeys on the side of the road with the old Tom displaying his tail feathers to his harem.
Spring is in the air and nature is gearing up for some fine weather.
Let me be the first to wish you all a happy and enjoyable Spring and Summer!
