:usaflag:What is the melting point of clad pennies?

:usaflag:After cleaning all those pennies, I ended up with a couple dozen "rejects".....Has anyone ever thought of melting them down and making something out of them? Just curious....I'm not one to throw something away if it can be re-used.

The zinc core melts at 786F and the copper jacket at 1981F. Not sure what you could make out of them.

:usaflag:I like that idea....But I don't think the wood stove in my garage will get up to 1900 degrees:hot:

Maybe I'll just give the pennies to my daughters for "play money"......they're always trying to empty my pockets anyways.

Clad pennies are made of zinc and kill or cause kidney failure if swllowed.

:usaflag:Thanks...I appreciate the warning...but they are both beyond the age of putting anything in their mouth besides food.

Just take them to the bank and they will trade you for good ones..it's called spoiled currency and they are required to trade it if it's at all recognizable,,,it is after all, legal tender I have over 100 of those those that I'll be taking in soon. Or you could always do what someone on here suggested a long time back. Put them in a jar and bury them where you're sure some other detector will find them. Give him a real thrill for a couple of minutes when he finds that 'cache'.

Thanks also for the warning John.
I wonder what the effect is of putting zinc cream on as a sun block? Often done over here.
