Mosquitoes and chiggers and ticks, oh my. The picture below doesn't do justice to the amount of vegetation and downed trees and brush around this old stone chimney. You basically find an opening, put your coil in it, wiggle it around, take your coil back out, and find another opening. Or you can put your detector down, and drag trees and brush out of the way. Anyway, cool looking old chimney, and the stone foundation can still be traced.

This is a shot of it last spring, a year ago.

My first good find was this pretty green-patina flat button. Also dug a lot of iron things. Not wanting to carry these heavy objects on the long walk out, I usually put them in the fork of a tree, or hang them from a limb, so the place is starting to look like some kind of Indian scrap iron burial grounds.

Found this interesting flat cap; wish I knew what it went to, and how old it was.

Here's my finds after about two hours. The round thing with glass in it was caked with mud; after washing it out, I discovered the glass and could see that whatever had been behind it had pretty much deteriorated behind the glass. There's a couple more flat buttons, a fired musketball(bottom center), piece of melted lead next to it. What looks like to be a heel protector and a thimble. If I had a dozer, I could find some stuff at this place.
Later,
Vernon
