When my in-laws were in there early eighties they both were losing their hearing and refused to wear hearing aids. They each had one fairly usable ear and one that was only able to hear loud noises. If they were placed where the two bad ears were together all sorts of comical misunderstandings could and would occur!

I drove them the eighty or so miles to a wedding and on the trip back home, I in my attempt to avoid traffic congestion, followed my un-erring instinct toward their house. After being asked if I knew where we were and replying no, but I knew where we were going so everything should be just fine, my mother in-law noticed we were in a run down part of the town we were passing through and commented that maybe we should lock the doors!

Burdened with his stone deaf ear toward her my father-in-law asked,
