:usaflag:I have a friend with a boat who brought me out to an island, which had a trading post on it dating back to the late 1870's.

Our digital camera is not working so I had to make a little video...enjoy !

Nice finds McDave. are you gonna do some more hunting in that spot? not knowing what you might find next is intriguing. best of luck in your next hunt where ever it might be. I think videos are much better than pics. any day.

Dave you got to hit that place again, there has to be more stuff there than just an ax head. How big is the island?....Bill in NC

:usaflag:Bill....it has to be a couple of acres anyways. It would almost be worthwhile to camp there for a weekend so a guy could do a more focused search. I was kind of surprised to not find a single coin that day, because I know there has to be some there. Will definately be going back ..

Nice finds!:detecting:Are there any stamps or identification markings on that ax head? Some people that are collectors of such items pay high dollar. I'm not sure of any specific resources to identify your ax head by markings, but there are books out there that cover such subjects. Might find it at the local library. Anyway, looks like ya found a great spot. Hit it hard.:detecting: Best of luck to ya! Happy Hunting!:)

No stamps or markings that I can see. Would that indicate that it was made by a local blacksmith? Maybe. I have'nt had a chance to look on the 'net for any info....maybe the shape and size of it might give some indication of it's age anyways. The nails/wedges that were in it were at least 100 years old.
