:usaflag:Since someone raised the subject of headphones..

:usaflag:Since it's only a matter of time before my almost new Garrett headphones bite the dust, and due to the poorly designed cord, I probably won't buy another one, could someone offer some alternate suggestions for a new set? And there's no need to suggest wireless, unless they are under $30 and actually work good. What is everyone using? Thanks.

This is a good question McDave, I bought a $39.00 set with volume control on both ears back around Xmas last year.Last week found myself swinging for about 5 min. before i realize they where on the blinks, finished, broke, done, trashed. Now I'm using the thin walkman type because they work pretty well and stretch the battery life out a little longer than going without them.I also can hear what's going on around me a little better with these thin head sets. They are also a lot lighter in weight than my broken set. Well,I think I'm going to buy a second set of the $15 thin guys and ride with them. There in one more thing i have noticed .When i wore the heaver broken set for a long period of time (4-5 hrs.) my neck would feel fatigued from the added weight and looking down all the time. With the thin set i feel much better.Let us know which ones you go with.HH

If your Garrett Headphones fail, I would send them in, I just sent in a 10 year old set and they were replaced "FREE" excellent Guarantee. If you want a quality set of headphones, just bite the bullet and get the best for the money. A good quality set of headphones makes all the differnce in the world. Find someone that has a set of 100 plus dollar headphones and experience the difference.

Headphones are a personal choice and opinions differ. SunRay Golds are very very good. The line of headphones by Detector Pro are excellent products as well.

I agree with bcoop! My personal choice happens to be SunRay Pro Gold and my back-up's are my old Garretts headphones. They both have an adjustable volume controls on each side. SunRay and Killer Bees are essential the same headphones. Be willing to pay at least $100+, but they're worth it. In the hot months coming up, I use earbuds with a wrap-around clip for your ear and then I attach a separate volume control to it. This work great if you are wearing a wide brim hat.

Good luck in your choice,

TC-NM

Still using my Garretts .. I long ago gave up
on the wireless set from walmart...

Just my opinion

:usaflag:I nearly forgot about the warranty..I could send them in I guess. Another thing is that I have been deaf in my right ear since infancy, so it does'nt really matter if one side is out ....and of course, a set with independant volume control(s) is redundant also. I might just try a pair of the walkman types and see if that works too. Another thing with those headphones is that your ears start to sweat after a while. Maybe a lighter pair is the way to go. Thanks guys.

I prefer the the ear bud (iPod/Walkman) type as they allow me to wear a hat without interference; they're light weigh; my head/face doesn't sweat under the muffs; I can drop one to have a free ear to hear what is going on around me; and they're cheap at the dollar store - just get a pair with a long cord.

I have worn hearing aids for 47 years and got my first Garrett detector, an ADS 3, in 1983. I am currently using a GTI 2500. I have constantly been searching for a convent and effective way of hearing sounds from the detector and the latest seems to be the greatest for me. I wear two Phonak SP hearing aids and I have two accessories, a Phonak iCom, and a Sony Bluetooth transmitter. I have the transmitter attached to the detector with Velco as can be seen in the photo. The iCom receives Bluetooth signals from the Sony transmitter and through an inductive neck loop, transfers the audio to the hearing aids. I can hear the detector

Hmm.I tried the walmart sentry wrought.Think I'll look into the bluetooth deal (sounds good) RSB.excuse the pun.:heh:

I thought Bluetooth was something you got from eating Blueberries. You mean it's something electronic? Where can you find these headphones, RSB? Help a country boy out.

:usaflag:I tried my wife's IPod earbuds...way too loud! I guess I'll keep using my Garrett's until something else comes along.

Because there are so many different configurations of Bluetooth systems that are available I can

Have you tried the regular Garrett phones with the full coiled cord. I have a pair like you're talking about and the cord sucks because the phones are some more junk out of China. The Chinese can't design anything but junk.

Bill

Yeah I use the light ones a lot especially in hot weather. I pick them up at our local Bi_Mart for about $12.00 and they work great.

Bill

McDave, I got to agree with you about the Garrett headphones that came with the ACE, the cord does suck, I found it to be way too long and in the way when you start to dig. I have almost cut mine in too a couple of times, If you find a good pair let me know. I do like the headphones but hate the cord.

Yeah that cord sucks immensely. But the Chinese have strange ideas about designing things. HA. Can't believe Garrett would put their name on that thing. I spend half my time untangling the danged thing. I went back to my regular phones and I really liked these except for the cord.

Bill.

I will suggest wireless because these work great. If you watch online they go on sale for $39 ever so often. Buy the $5 a year full replacement warranty. Radio Shack 33-1253
There is no lag in the signal. Has a volume control and light weight.

Well, I took Orions advice....bought the Koss at Wally World with the little volume control. They work great on my Ace 250..haven't tried them out
on my 2500 yet. I bet they will work fine tho. You will have to buy the little 1/4x1/8 adapter tho. (3.5 mm) Thanks Orion!
