I just wanted to show everyone my next-door neighbor's house. Yes...he lives in that almost 100 year old gyppo shack that was once a little store back in it's heyday. He works for the railroad and has money spilling out of his rear-end. And I think he paid like $3K for it 30 years ago.....I think he paid too much.

Anyways. For anyone who is looking for good privately owned hunting spots, this is a perfect example of a good one. Despite the fact that there is a 5 foot long by 1 foot wide strip of greasy aluminum foil buried 6 inches down in front of that Norway Pine tree....barbecue gone bad???....I have found a dozen wheats here, all 1925 and earlier. One '43 war nickel, a '39 nickel. And a token good for two packs of cigarettes.

Sorry, I'm bored and figured I'd drum-up some conversation.

I think U wanted to show us your cold cross eyed talent:rofl:Gotta be a silver coin pop up around spring time. nice pics

I hear ya on the bored thing. Weather has been bad even in the south..saw this morning that there is snow in 49 of the 50 states - including some in Hawaii on the mountain tops. So no one is finding anything. Cant even count on the Aussies since is sounds like they are mostly underwater. What is a guy to do? I keep myself sane...welll mostly...by remembering that in about 6 more weeks the end of this long cold nightmare will be in sight.

Well I don't have any "show", but I do have some "tell" heh. I have been doing research and trying to find some good leads for this upcoming season, I think my second year is going to be exciting!

My wife is the "town administrator" for the small town where we live (she grew up here). She is in charge of all the stuff like city taxes, water bills, cemetery records, and all the other stuff that it takes to keep a small town organized. She has been doing this for several years, and recently something very interesting happened. She received a letter, at the town office, from an elderly woman from far away who needed information about the cemetery records. She also wanted to know about the condition of the plots that her family members are buried in. For this story, I will refer to the elderly woman as 'Emma'. Well, Emma and my wife have become pen-pals. It turns out that Emma was born OVER 100 years ago, and lives far away, but really misses the place she grew up, and is delighted to have a friend, my wife, to keep her connected to her past.
Emma tells stories about how things were long ago, the people that she knew (we know some of the same families, newer generations). My wife tells her stories about how things have changed, and how some things have stayed the same. It's very cool for me to hear the things that Emma has to tell, so much historical information, and funny and heartwarming stories from the early 1900's. Her family was a homestead family...and I am hearing this great stuff from someone who was actually there!!!
In one of the letters my wife mentioned that I was into metal detecting, and I have found some old coins from the 1800's and early 1900's. Emma thought it was very interesting, and told us a story. One day, when Emma was very young, her mother sold some vegetables at the local market, and came home with a silver dollar. Emma's uncle was goofing around and knocked the dollar out of the mother's hand, and it fell between the floorboards of the house. Emma said that nobody took up the floorboards to retrieve the dollar, it wasn't going anywhere anyway. That dollar was never picked up. Emma said that she has thought about that silver dollar all of her life! She was back in this area in 1989, and visited her old farm and saw that the cellar hole was still there (I hope it's still here in 2011). I should be able to find the exact spot where that hole should be, and I know the people that own the land (SO glad my wife has the job she does!). I think it would be so amazing to find that dollar and return it to Emma...it's a longshot but I am going to try!!!

Great story Johnny, good luck !

I looked up the saying "cabin fever." I think it applies. I'd have paid 3500 maybe even 4 grand for the place. Have to wonder about the new neighbors, though!

Katz, I could prove you wrong and take a close-up shot of my schnoze. It ain't pretty..

Ok here is something to show. This spot has nothing to do with my Emma story. This is a spot a friend told me about, it is in the middle of nowhere, and is %100 virgin territory. I was there one day last summer (my wife and little girl came too), but I didn't find much. I have learned much since I was there and I can't wait to go back. I also found another old site a few hundred yards from this one. What do you think?

From the pics JC, U R in virgin territory and what a good feeling to just hunt the area .Good luck on your return
