Digging up old silver coins in salt water at the local beach over the years has been fun!
It is a sad event to remove the encrustation of salt, sand and silver oxide and discover a wafer of silver so thin that you can bend it between your fingers.
Collector's value is gone and bullion value is all that is left.
This is a Roosie photo essay illustrating the encrustation partly removed and how badly the coin is dammaged!

Once in a while an oldie will be recovered with only a thin coating of silver oxide and hardly any damage at all, but this doesn't happen often.
