:usaflag:Once again..it sure the heck does'nt hurt to ask. I called up the city offices of Virginia, MN..which is about 25 miles south. And asked the city clerk if I needed a permit or if metal detecting is prohibited in the cities handful of parks. She said that years (and years) ago a person needed a permit, but she could'nt remember the last time anyone asked her that..and she's been the clerk since 1969. She was'nt even sure..so she put me on hold and went down the hall to ask the police dept. They said there was no problem as long as I did'nt leave any holes. This park was first leased to the city in 1905...cetainly not old by east coast standards..but should produce some coins nonetheless. Will post some pic's of the park and any finds soon enough. :detecting:

You lucky dog you! Hope you find some good stuff there.
You Live in Minnesota? MN is Minnesota. I lived there for years before the cold
weather finally drove me out. I was there from 1964 to 1981. Hung out at the University
of Minnesota where I took classes but never got that piece of paper. Could have, should have,
but didn't. Too old and to tired to want to go back. With my luck, I could study hard,
get the diploma and keel over the next day!!!!

Yeah..I'm thinking that the cold, long winters will eventually drive me out too..but I still got a couple of decades to put up with it. Or at least until my kids are out of the house. I think the record low was set in Embarrass, MN a couple of years back... 61 degrees below zero one morning in late december or early january. In mid-winter I like to entertain my daughters by blowing bubbles out the back door..and they come back in the house frozen solid and roll across the kitchen floor...only in Minnesota.

Yeah I got a belly full of that nasty midwestern weather when I was still young ( early twenties ) and headed west and haven't looked back since. I've got relatives back there that you couldn't blast out of there. A lot of them are buried there. But not me. Didn't take me a lifetime to wise up.

I was working security at Fortune Bay in Tower, MN in 1996 when they had -65 degrees. I think it was in February. I couldn't believe how many old folks drove there just to play BINGO in that weather.

I must be young (34) and dumb (college educated) but I love MN. Good Thunder,MN to be exact. Born here, lived my whole life here, and will die here. Have to love farm communities. Everybody waves, everybody stops to help but everybody knows everybodie's business. Makes for great detecting if even most of the people think I am weird doing this hobby. Little do they know I am secretly finding a small fortune in their back yards. Good Luck with the parks and don't slam MN it is a great place to be even with 5 feet of snow and blistering cold winds.

:usaflag:I was'nt slamming it...I was just stating a weather fact. And if I did'nt love it here I would have left years ago. I grew up in the Boston area when people were getting shot at and getting their butts whipped just for walking down the street. It has gotten better over the last couple of years but I would never go back. It's still a ratrace. I live in a town of 600 and I love it. Happy hunting in Good Thunder.

Cook is a nice little town. I lived in Alango Township and went to high school in Cook in the 70's and lived in Cook from '93-'99. I live in a small town now, but I still miss the Cook area. I'm planning on doing some detecting in Alango and Sturgeon Township this month if things go as planned. :detecting: Maybe we'll run into each other!
