At sunrise it was in the mid-30s here, but by the time I decided to brave the temps it was almost 40 degrees.

Clad in several layers of thermals and my dry suit I waded into "shelter cove" and found a clad quarter as my first target and thought to myself, "I hope it doesn't go down hill from here!!"

In the few short minutes it took to recover my first target I was starting to feel chilled below the water's surface and colder above the surface in a gentle, but cold north wind.

A few coins, including a Merc, later and almost an hour into the hunt which was almost all in deep, dense sand I found the small silver beaded bracelet.

A couple of sinkers and a couple more coins at the 11/2 hours mark and minutes later 5.5 Grams of 14K lay in my sifter!!

Moments later only a foot away from the hole where I found the ring I dug up this dinner knife and called it a day!!

Too cold for me, but maybe next time----------

GL&HH Friends,

Very Nice CJ, Your still rock'en!! And the D scoop seems to be the ticket....

Joe I have been getting asked about how Diablo is coming along and here it is as I understand things!!

As one of the lucky few to be asked to "torture test" Diablo in the least desirable conditions I can tell you that it has been a pleasure for me!!

I am using/abusing #4 now and have 2,696 targets recovered with it from some of the lousiest conditions a water hunter is likely to encounter.

I can not speak for the person who has been developing this digger. He has a full time+ job with lots of responsibility and long hours in industry and Diablo has been both a challenge and a diversion for him from his day to day stress-load.

The S/S version I am now using looks hardly used and has kept me in the game by allowing me to dig without as much effort in some tough bottom conditions.

Tomorrow I'll post a pic. (It's dark outside now.)

A lighter weight aluminum version is in the works I'm told and will likely be the last prototype before any production begins. The aluminum one will likely be the standard, light weight version with a heavier duty S/S version for anyone needing more strength in their digger.

(Now you know about as much as I do!!)

CJ

Thanks for the update, I know with all the rocks and gravel you have put it to the test....

I have to say the two I have... I like the Aluminum better then the SS, or the titanium.

What is your ring count for the year now?

Thats a nice solid looking ring CJ, best of luck for your next hunt.

"What is your ring count for the year now?"

Sorry Joe, I lost count!!

I'd have to go back and review my posts and add them up!

As promissed----------

The cord & float are for deep water use when I am hunting so deep I lose track of the handle/scoop location. The floatie and air filled handle keep the end upright. (I don't tether the scoop to me, but in rough water it would be a good idea as the scoop is light enough for a stiff current to carry it away!!)

In a production version the bolts would be shorter I'm sure!
