:usaflag: One of Life's Warnings??

Years ago I started wearing sneakers as a way to make it through the day without suffering from my flat feet. Conventional work shoes and boots left me with a couple of loudly barking "dogs" by the end of most work days.

A couple of days ago I removed my left sneaker to shake out a small stone that was imposible to ignore and I saw a nail stuck in the instep part of the shoe just far enough away from where my foot rested to keep me from knowing it was there. It had gotten completely imbedded only about 1/4" from the hole left by another nail less than three weeks ago!!

Had either of these 1" nails entered the sneaker a tiny fraction of an inch toward the center of the shoe I would have been suffering from the result. I stepped on a nail driven through a 2X4" plank hidden under a layer of sand as a teen while walking on a Texas beach and can tell you from experience that it is no joy ride!!

I find that in life things often happen for a reason, and my take on this event occurring twice in so short a time frame is that I need to more carefully watch where I step or maybe life has another message for me that I am missing.

Any thoughts on the matter that you folks might care to share??

We were up in Ontario camping at a lake...Boy scouts...we had to park the trailer with the canoes and all the gear about three miles away and walk in...there was an old burned down cabin I was fooling around at, when Bam! Right up through the bottom of my Thom Mcanns and deep into my foot...I didn't tell the scout master, and walked back to the trailer and hauled some more gear in...by that evening, I was really hurting, and the scoutmaster found out and took a look, and was ready to haul me into town to a doctor. Just then, a boat showed up, there was an old guy and his wife who lived on the other side of the lake who just stopped by to say howdy...Well, they took me back to their cabin, and as the old guy kept me occupied telling me bear and moose stories, the old woman carefully dug as much rust and whatnot outta my foot. Then, she went out to the spring, and came back with a ball of blue clay, put it on my foot and wrapped it up. As that clay dried, it pulled all the poison outta my foot, and I've been using it as a cure for this kind of injury ever since! Several Great lessons learned by that experience!

Plenty of good, lightweight hikers on the market that will give your flat feet the support they need while giving your soles (not soul) the protection they need.

BDA I wear sneaks with white soles so I don't scuff customers floors. I'm afraid the lug soles would be a problem. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I find it interesting that after over fifty years I almost got punctured twice in so short a time!

That time in Texas my Dad, his brother and I were on the Matagorda Peninsula to fish for flounder. We waded in the water for hours that night and all the pain subsided and my foot healed without complications. The nail was so deep I had to balance on the plank with my other foot and pull my foot off the nail with all my strength!

Another of life's lessons!
