I came across this old article and thought I'd share.

I was using a Garrett's XL500 PI carried at my waist.

The recovered item was a Buffalo nickle.

The cold weather gear tells me it had to be during the winter that year, but I can't remember what month.

This was to be the first of several articles.

If I am able to find any of the others I'll post them too,

CJ

You are one of the true forerunners and a inspiration to us all to get out their and do it. Such a cool photo Cupajo.

Good memories! Aaah! The exuberance of youth! It's a testament to the hobby and the people in it that after 25 years you are still at it, and loving it.

These pics were taken when I was 46 years of age and very active at hunting.

My business as a plumbing repairman and my growing family required nearly all my attention and by the end of the next year I put away my machines and didn't use them again for over twenty years except when someone asked me to locate and recover a jewel for them.

The equipment works as good today as it did way back them, a testament to quality equipment, the old body works a little less well, but survived a four hour hard digging hunt last fall.

I'm delighted to be hunting again and being able to share with fellow hunters has added a whole new dimension to the hobby.

Thanks for your replies Friends,

CJ

Mr. Determination in Action.:clapping:

That's what I like to see the treasures of memories....................................a lot more encouraging than the fellows that do little else but to bitch about the weather condition all the time.

Perhaps some of us vintage persons still have enough memory left to enjoy these pics.

Thank you Mr C.

Thank you for your reply Ivan it's most appreciated!

At the time these photos were taken I was one of only a few hunters in near virgin hunting grounds.

There were three days I remember when two or three hours of searching resulted in six or seven gold rings.

As the resident hunter in this small beach community I have recovered my share of goodies and these days most targets are deep and harder to find than ever.

Few hunters understand that metal detecting can be far more than a hobby.

It can be a way for a person to exercise creativity and to rise to the challenge of learning how to get the most from his equipment.

Ivan, you continue to contribute your solutions for some of the equipment problems we face and I for one am grateful!

Many thanks,

CJ
