Got my new dry suit wet this AM and gave it a real workout in the surf kicked up by a brisk south-west wind.

41/2 hours of hunting with the Dual Field resulted in two rings found along with the usual PI stuff (bits of nails, wire etc) and a few coins (all clad I think although some are encrusted).

The signet ring is 10K and the other has a French inscription and the date 9-24-09.

Based on the style and condition I'm sure this ring is over a hundred years old!!

Even silver won't tarnish much in less than a month.

I do like the dry suit, but had no one to snap a picture for you this time.

The struggle to get into it and out again demands dedication on the part of the user that's for sure!!

Nice rings CJ. Working in the surf ain't easy but thats where the gold is. They both look older.

Talcum powder slicks you a bit...

I'm at a fairly well protected section of the Connecticut shore.

We have Long Island as a "breakwater between us and direct waves form the Atlantic, but when the wind comes from either the Easterly or Westerly directions we get some fair swells that can be rough at times.

It might not be considered surf in most parts of the "surfing" world, but when I am working with a scoop and sifter it's surf enough for me!!

Often a hunt will start with the water smooth and calm and in a short while the wind picks up and you are being kicked around by two to four foot waves and the struggle isn't worth it if you are in waders.

It is not quite so bad in a dry suit as I found out yesterday except you need weights to keep you from being moved around.

that's one of the biggest reasons why I stopped scuba diving, it was a real pain getting in and out of the suit, but it sure was nice during cold weather. HH

Hi Ed,

Talcom powder is being phased out for these sorts of uses as it has health issues when you breath the dust!

These days plain old (and cheap) corn starch is the preferred substitute.

It works amazingly well!

Some people may have a corn allergy problem though and that must be considered.

Thanks for your reply Friend,

CJ

Ohhhhhhhh! Not only that, but a trucker once told me that after a long drive, a hand full gleefully rubbed between your cheeks feels like heaven. Donno, never been there...:unsure::unsure:

I dropped off the ring with the stone at a jeweler friends today and he is pretty sure the "stone" is synthetic in a 12 K setting.

He agrees that it looks like a "French" setting which goes along with the inscription.

He is going to have a gemologist/appraiser friend look at it even though he and I don't really think it has any significant value.

It is an object of interest if for no other reason than it is over a hundred years old!
