Got my new dry suit wet this AM and gave it a real workout in the surf kicked up by a brisk south-west wind.

41/2 hours of hunting with the Dual Field resulted in two rings found along with the usual PI stuff (bits of nails, wire etc) and a few coins (all clad I think although some are encrusted).

The signet ring is 10K and the other has a French inscription and the date 9-24-09.

Based on the style and condition I'm sure this ring is over a hundred years old!!

Even silver won't tarnish much in less than a month.

I do like the dry suit, but had no one to snap a picture for you this time.

The struggle to get into it and out again demands dedication on the part of the user that's for sure!!

One very pretty ring there!

I could only get out to dirt fish for about an hour today. Too much that needs doing.

The wet suit I have is work to get into and out of, I can only imagine what a dry suit would be like.

Glad you got the rings, you certainly are working for them.
Cheers,

Thanks for your reply Friend.

It's one of the more unusual finds I've dug up.

I found another from 1900 not long ago.

I went "on line" and found information that should make using the dry suit less difficult.

The main problems were the "tube" that was useful for kayakers, but only in my way when I struggled to enter and exit the suit(I removed it) and the zippers that were very hard to open and close.

I called the manufacturer and was informed the suit was supposed to have "Zip Lube" included in the package and it was not there.

They are shipping me a small container free!

After checking every store in the area that I thought might stock such a thing, I found a similar lube at West Marine locally and it has made a huge difference in how the zipper works.

The Zip Lube I finally located at a Dive Shop a few towns away from here.

I also purchased the recommended thermal "wet wicking" type of under wear to keep the cold at bay and now all I have to do is wait for time and tide.

I dropped off the ring with the stone at a jeweler friends today and he is pretty sure the "stone" is synthetic in a 12 K setting.

He agrees that it looks like a "French" setting which goes along with the inscription.

He is going to have a gemologist/appraiser friend look at it even though he and I don't really think it has any significant value.

It is an object of interest if for no other reason than it is over a hundred years old!

Still a very pretty ring even with synthetic stone. I really like the circular arches and the solid smooth form they take as they come up to the setting points of the stone.

Thanks for the information on the Zip Lube. I will have to get some for the dive boots I wear for surf hunting and see if it makes the zippers bind a little less!

Cheers,

Nice ring. Did they have synthetic stones 100 yrs ago.? I tought it looked like a Garnet, or maybe a Tourmaline? Any way nice finds

I wondered the same thing.

I hope the gemologist will enlighten us!
