:usaflag: Not Gold, But I'll Take It!! :detecting:

A fellow hunter that frequents the local beach where I hunt covers a lot of ground with his high end detector and does manage to do pretty well. I take particular pleasure when I recover nice finds in his "foot steps" with my less expensive Ace 250.

He wears a beach shoe with very distinctive soles and I know where he has been and sometimes I recover goodies he has missed. My last nice item was the small 14K Crucifix I posted recently. Today it was this small sized, but heavy silver ring.

.45 Troy Oz. of silver. It ain't gold, but I'll take it!! (Along with the two dollars I found in his tracks too!)

Wow, fantastic find! The Ace series are inexpensive, but they are REAL performers... That's a huge ring!

Good one Cupajo.
He must be swinging his coil like a pendulum to miss these targets.

Hi MS,

Thanks for your reply Friend!:)

The ring is a small size and can't get past my pinkie knuckle, but is heavily made. The little Ace with an 81/2"X11" Ellipitical coil is a nice lightweight combination for beach hunting. I prefer to hunt with disc. low and sens. a bit high so I dig a lot of aluminum foil and nuggets etc. I don't however miss a lot.

The gent I referred to above told me he hadn't beeen finding a lot there as he pointed to an area I had carefully hunted with my Ace.

Good luck and happy hunting,

CJ

Hi Joel,

Thanks for your reply!:)

The hunter is a few years older than I at 74yrs., but he hunts a lot more than I do. He covers a lot of ground compared to me and has many fine recoveries to his credit.

In the length of time it takes me to cover a fifty foot square of sandy beach to my satisfaction he will have laid down tracks on a football field sized section of beach.

He sweeps low and fast and mostly uses VID to determine what to dig and leaves any questionable signal behind. He is a kind hearted gent and I have utmost respect for him even though our hunting methods aren't the same. (I've heard that's what makes the world go around!!)

All the best,

CJ

I think metal detectorists are like old pianists.

They go through life slowly and sometimes stiff and not too mobile. But when they sit down on the piano bench, their hands fly up and down the keys as if they were in their youth. There's something magical about the piano to them, and so with older metal detectorists. They may walk with a cane or need help to get here and there, but get those headphones on and they'll often run circles around you...

I have a friend who is like that. I get a kick out of watching him sometimes, zippin' from place to place.
But even a blind hog finds a nut from time time. I remember once, he pulled a big whopper of a ring from the spot we were detecting.

He's also a true blue chum... a treasure in his own right.

Thanks for your replies Friends!!

Yesterday my Daughter-in-law told me she saw this very ring on E-bay with a seventy five dollar asking price as a collectable!:clapping:
