I didn't get out of the van at the beach this morning, because the wind and drizzle made it too uncomfortable!!

A couple of K-9 teams (handler and dog) one from Waterbury and one from Hartford were exercising where I could watch and enjoy their maneuvers.

The state's K-9 teams use the area along the shore in this small town for practice because there are few people around this time of year.

The wind has pushed the water into "The Sound" so high that the usually visible boulder out in the water at Old Colony Beach is only seen when the wave trough passes.

Huge swells are breaking hard at the waters edge throwing spray high into the air in the wind.

Unbelievable amounts of sand will be moved along the entire north-eastern seaboard because of this storm and when the water quiets down there will be newly exposed treasures to find.

So get ready fellow hunters!!

I'll be watching for Ya,

CJ

Hope you east coast guys do good. On the west coast we just got hit by a S to SW swell/wind a few days ago (central CA anyhow). It paid off with about 8 or 9 gold items, between 4 of us hunters, in a two day period. Lots of coins too. Funny how if you've ever been on beach storm erosion pickens that thick, where all the light stuff is washed out (leaving only heavy items), that you will never again want to dry sand hunt again! haha

I just got back from my "morning stroll" on the beach that I had to postpone because of weather.

I found lots of small debris and one large (over a foot square) piece of steel sheet metal, some pieces of aluminum cans and foil, several pieces of mono-filament and one sharp fish hook on a mono leader!

I did a careful assessment of what the storm has been doing to "My" beach and it is very evident that huge amounts of sand have been pulled down off the beach and have moved the water's edge maybe 30'-40' farther out from the fence nearby.

The section of beach where I have made many of my recent finds is now under 1' to maybe 3' of sand!

Thanks Mother Nature!!:ranting:

Now I need to get out there and see if anything got uncovered farther out!

Come on Mom N. ease up on the swells and drop the water level a bit more!

CJ

I heard about the West Coast storm and wondered how you made out there.

Thanks for the report Fellow Hunter,

CJ

When I was a kid we used to go out that way for a few days in the summer. My grandmother would rent a house just off the beach not to far from where Katherine Hepburn owned a home. (So I am told anyway)

Kate was and still is a local legend.

Her home over-looks Long Island Sound and is only a few yards from the waters edge.

She is said to have swam in the cold waters year round until she became infirm and attributed her good health until that time to her not babying herself, but testing her limits often.

There is a small private beach close by that is within sight of her house and she is said to have called the police when she saw anyone trespassing there.

I've often thought I would like to hunt that little beach as it has been in continuous use for a couple of hundred years by the nearby wealthy residents, but being a private beach I don't think anyone has hunted it.

Another dream to pursue,

CJ

The only beach around here is in the other room................WOOPS I better not say that. I sure nobody shows 'er this........:surprised: I could be in trouble.....:surprised:

Cupajo, is that private beach on the other side of a big pile of rocks? It was in Old Lyme so I could be wrong. I know Katherine had a home down there. (Great Actress!!!)

I don't remember the name of the street the house we were at was on, all I know was it was right off the beach on the top of that pile of rocks. I hardly ever saw anyone on the other beach but there were plenty on the main beach.

It was so long ago. I know a Doctor Owned the house and I remember it had a 3/4 wrap around porch. We had lot of fun there. Brings back great memories!! :)

Kate's home was at the Fenwick Bourough part of the town of Old Saybrook across the Connecticut River south of Old Lyme.

I'm not sure which beach you are referring to as there are many small beaches in the area that somewhat answer that description.

Thanks for your reply,

CJ
