One of my middle-aged, dry sand, beach hunting friends gave me a new/never worn wet suit with the tags still on it because he decided he wasn't going to be a water hunter after all. (And it was just my size!)
After a thinkin about it for a year I finally decided last year, when the water got warm enough, to wear it for the first time.
I used to have a full suit, but that was many years and many pounds ago and there was no way it would fit this old guy any more.
I have, but rarely use, a kayaker type dry suit, but have a hard time regulating the temperature in it for comfort.
When I started hunting wearing the new wet suit it was like I had been set free to go as deep and stay as long as I wanted. (Once the water was warm enough of course!)
Another Hunting Friend just purchased a 3/4 length too after he and I had a chat about the "freedom factor". (No flooded waders etc.)
He mentioned how the zipper was in the back with a long strap to enable zipping it up.
I thought it rather odd that my front zipper had a long strap too.
Today, after wearing it for one full season, including for the television interview which was seen by many of my friends and family, I finally realized I had been wearing the wet suit backwards!!! (At my age I have learned to have a good laugh at myself when I can!)
Now either people who saw me wearing the suit were too kind to say anything about it or more likely not very many people take a second glance at an old, fat guy in a wet suit to notice he has it on backwards!!
It has been perfectly comfortable and I have a little temperature control by lowering the zipper to allow air movement and heat to escape.
Now even though I am over-weight, most of it is battle of the bulge over my belt, so the suit just seems to fit right.
Should I be offered any remarks by my more knowledgeable friends I shall just assure them this suit is custom built that way!!
