I did'nt know what it was at first, as it is very worn. But after I realized what it was and did my chicken dance, I wondered how the heck it got up here. But then I realized that there were fur traders up here long before there were towns. I was using my Ace 250 and it chimed-in like a brand new penny just under the grass, but was in fact much deeper..6 inches. I'm a lucky duck with only days left until the ground is frozen solid....love this hobby...good times.

outrageous find!,,and very tough to locate!....good job!
ain't this hobby fun?

There are two varieties of the 1864....one is worth $150 in G4, and the other is $20 in G4. Which one did you find?

Found my first this summer I sure was jacked. Good find!

I couldn't tell. I saw the differences explained in the Blue Book....but they must be much more subtle than the book explains. Did you see what the small motto in PF-63 was listed at? ($10K)

My '08 book shows the small at $55 G-4, and the large at $8 in the same condition.

Way to go Dave, That's a cool coin to add to the collection.:)

nice find, wish I could find something like that down here, beginning to wonder if we have any cool finds in this state seems like everything is either east, west or north of us, guess I'm going to have to figure out how to take a metal detecting trip somewhere in the next year or so. Jimmie

Location is everything. There has been activity in your area way longer than where I am. Keep looking...it's there.

heh I live way up in the NE corner of the state its tough to even find silver coins and wheaties up here, ahh well like you said I'll just have to keep on looking may get lucky and find something really cool one of these days. Jimmie

That is a really neat find! It looks like the scratches on it are deliberate and bisect the coin into quarters and then one quarter is bisected into 1/8's. I wonder what that is all about? It seems odd that a 2 cent piece would be cut for change but I suppose it's possible. Anyway, cool find.
