Rich, Frank and I waded out into Long Island Sound to check for recent drops as the beaches for miles around were loaded with people over he weekend.

After about 4 hours when thunder was being heard off to the North West, we called it quits.

My 43 finds included a few interesting items, 1- silver ring from Thailand, a small wallet with drivers license, social security card and a Platinum Visa card, a marine's dog tag and some ss hardware.

The wallet was returned after some hastle trying to locate the owner. (No phone number of course!!)

I found a Dr's appointment slip and called them to see if they would be kind enough to contact their patient, which they did!! Imagine that!!

The dog tag has only one date for a Tetnus shot 6/43 which makes this one old tag!!

The other tag is from a fan of some sort I guess and the lighter was included to remind me I need a magnet on my scoop!! (I chased that blasted thing for 20 minutes before recovering it!!)

All in all a good hunt!

GL&HH Friends,

Nice finds Cj. That is an old tag very cool just a question but when you or any other hunters find them do you try to locate the owners or the family for a return ? Just wondering thinking some tossed them because anger or sadness or the family threw them do to loss.

Someone may have tossed it, but I thought it worth a follow-up and called the state's Marine Recruiting Office.

I was told it was very unlikely the owner would be found and that it probably was discarded.

By posting it there is a slim chance someone who cares may try to contact me.

I shall treat it with the respect it deserves and return it I can.

Thanks for your reply Drew!

CJ,

Your other token that says Perko actually shows a picture of a boat spotlight. Perko makes or made boat accessories. Nice finds . Love the old ww2 dog tag!!

Thanks SD!!

I wasn't sure what they made and the faded picture looked like a fan to me.

For myself and most of the Hunters I know it has never been about the gold or the money even though they do sweeten the experiences we have while hunting!!

GL&HH Bob,

Very cool finds. Very unlikely that the owner of the dog tag would still be alive. Unfortunately, most of our brave WW2 vets are no longer with us. If he was 18 when he enlisted, that would make him 87 now.
