:usaflag: Me and my Ace 250 and an enjoyable stroll along the dry sand of our local beach!! :detecting:

When all the fog finally burned off and the breeze died down we started to have what promised to be a fine afternoon!

After I finished with my work obligations for the day, I headed down to the beach I wrote about a couple of weeks ago where the iron and nails were driving me up the wall.

I casually wandered toward the water and then angled back toward the side away from the water in an attempt to determine what the beach sweeper had done to the surface and what might be lying just beneath it.

Three dimes, all clad

One nickle

Three quarters

one penny

one wheat penny

four zinc pennies

and one 1938 Mercury Dime (in nice condition)

I wasn't able to avoid all iron, but it was quickly evident to me when the response was a nail or iron or a pull tab (Most of the time!!)

I found that when the dimes and pennies were shallow they caused the machine to signal with a rapid staccato bell tone, but the id was bouncing from the penny to dime positions.

A deep penny would sometimes register as a half dollar or dollar!

I was running in "coin" mode and sensitivity at 4 to 5.

I am using the 9X12 coil and the only problems I had were when the iron bits and nails were all over the place.

The smaller coils might help separate the targets better!

All in all an enjoyable stroll!!

There is an old local pro, who runs one around here CJ. This guy actually hunts the wetsand and does well. Of course he hunts in jewelry mode, as the coin mode won't net you much gold AND he used a sniper coil too. Needless to say, he does a LOT of swinging and overlapping, but I betcha he gets some good separation, LOL! Excal 800, is about as small of a coil, as I ever care to use!

Hey GH,

The place I hunted has houses along the beach about 75-100 yards from the water.

There are thousands of nails and other odd bits of iron (nuts, bolts & screws mostly) about the first 100 feet or so from the houses toward the water.

From about the halfway point there isn't much of a problem with debris and too many targets.

Over 25 years ago I found my first gold wedding band along that nail covered stretch and since that time I have only found an occasional silver and some clad, but no more gold there.

I thought it would be interesting to retrace my steps with the Excal and dig everything it says dig!

We're having a foggy morning and it's supposed to rain all day, but the tide is right and I may have a chance to hit the water.

GL&HH Friend,

CJ
