:usaflag:Learned something from the AT Pro manual..

:usaflag:First of all I have to say, that Garrett has done a great job with a very informative users manual.

And a very important thing was learned regarding the headphones that come with the detector. I knew that they were NOT submersible, but what I did not know was that the plug-in is also NOT submersible. It is a good thing that they make it a point to inform us of this. Otherwise I think some people (including myself) would have dunked the detector and found out the hard way.

When the manual says "dry use only" they are referring to the submersion of the headset not the connector. In the picture you'll see a watertight headphone connector with an o-ring.

:usaflag:Here is what the manual says..word for word.

Waterproof headphones (sold separately) must be used if the "AT Pro is fully
immersed" in water. The standard land-use headphones included with the
detector are not waterproof.

I don't interpret that any other way.

I understand what your saying. I think Garrett's wording is incorrect. Why else would they go to the trouble to put a waterproof connector on the standard headset?

The machine has only one connector on it .....It's a waterproof connector that ANY set of phones will have to adapt to whether they are wet phones , or dry phones ......The only difference between the wet and dry phones on OTHER manufacturers machines , are the fact that the headphone drivers and the connections to the drivers are encapsulated so that they remaiin waterproof .... You can take the drivers and connections along with the encapsulated waterproofing out of the shell of the headphones and dunk them underwater with no issues ...... The connector and the cord are therefore more than likely waterproof , but the actual headphones are NOT waterproof .... Jim

The standard (not water proof) headset that come with the AT pro do have that special connector which does make the connector water proof. Any tweaking of this connector with an adapter may not make it (connector) water proof, but still readily accept the 1/4 " or 1/8" headset jack of any other brand of headsets.

I ASKED THIS QUESTION SOME TIME BACK AND SUE AT GARRETT ASSURED ME THAT THE CONNECTOR IS WATERPROOF, ONLY THE EARPHONES THEMSELVES ARE NOT. SO IT IS OK TO USE IN WATER BUT DO NOT DUNK THE EARPIECES.

I agree the connector is waterproof headphones are not. Wording may be that way in hopes of selling more waterproof headphones.

Now lets see I think I got it!!! (THE CONNECTOR IS WATERPROOF, ONLY THE EARPHONES THEMSELVES ARE NOT.)
I never go to the water so why should I care???
