:usaflag: Just When I Thought I knew How To Charge My Battery Pack!!!

See the post on this page about Excalibur battery charging and find out how much you may not know too!!

You are right about that BeachComber,

When I have milked every last ounce of use out of the old battery packs I will exchange the wornout carcasses for the new batteries.

Sure is a lot of trouble though and I do look forward to having all NiMH batteries!

GL&HH Friend,

CJ

I always leave my machine on after a long hunt to drain the batteries and then recharge as stated in the manual (so they'd don't develop a memory).

So far, the batteries in my XS2a pro are running like new.

hh,
Brian

Hey CC,

How long have you owned it?

Depleteing the Nicads to too low a charge is supposed to damage them too according to the battery suppliers!

The new NiMH batteries are supposed to avoid either issue.

CJ

CJ I've had the Sov for a little over a year, but the original owner bought it when it was new, not sure exactly when the SX2a's were out, but I'm fairly certain it's the original battery pack.

The manual states to leave the machine on to drain the batteries prior to charging for the best results (no memory I assume).

When this battery pack buys the farm, I'll probably try to build my own with newer battery technology (NiMH, lithium ion, or such). So far, they work well, except if I leave them in the machine. There seems to be a slight discharge and if I don't use it for a month or so, their dead, so I remove them.

Hey Brian,

This battery thing can be a real pain.

The Excal I bought used and the nicad pack that came with it seemed OK until I started using it often.

So far i haven't gotten a lot of use out of it until the charge drops to 12.8 volts or so and the machine starts acting up.

When I switch to a fully charged NiMH pack it settles down and works just fine!

I'm thinking about discarding the nicads and going with NiMH all the way!

That is what I did on my Excal :detecting:

Dump the NiCads as quick as you can, they're not worth the grief!! I have bought 2 used Excals now and ordered the Nimh's for the rebuild before the machines even arrived. I've used NiCads for years in vaious applications, what a pain!!
