Well its that time of year again (already?), my birthday. I am 59 years old today, and still good to go and ready to launch. This marks my eighth year of posting on this forum. It was this time last year on my birthday when I made the post titled "Its my party and I'll cry if I want to"... http://www.findmall.com/read.php?52,296812,296812#msg-296812 ~ In that post, I told about how this lady with a butch haircut ran me off her property after her husband had given me permission to detect on it, and how it bummed me out on my birthday. Well, today after dinner, my number 3 daughter Sarah who is 11 had expressed an interest to go metal detecting. So I took her back to the old house where I had found the gold signet ring about 3 weeks ago (first photo).

After detecting in a blanket of trash, I finally got a good signal in between a bunch of iron. It was reading about 80, 82, and was small in size, and 5" deep. I told Sarah this was going to be a silver dime, maybe a Barber, or even seated Liberty. I dug a plug, and at 5", Sarah found a small disk using the pinpointer. I rubbed it a couple of times, and could see stars and the outline of an eagle; I flipped it over, and saw it was a button with the shank broke off, and judging by the shape of the eagle, I could tell it probably pre-dates the Civil War, maybe even the War of 1812 or earlier. There is writing on the back of the button, but I have not been able to make it out. Also seems to be what looks like a small stamp. The button is silver gilded, although it doesn't look like it in the last photo.

A few minutes later I'm detecting near where the button came from, and got another good signal, and out pops this pressed pin, I guess you'd call it. It has a hook at the top where perhaps a chain went through it, not exactly sure what it is, but I can tell you its old.

Here are the two finds cleaned up somewhat. I consider them fine birthday presents... happy birthday to me.
