Water temp 39 Degrees F, air temp a tad over 40 Degrees, no wind when I started, but a couple of hours in a breeze started out of the south and stirred up the water a little.

As I slipped on my gauntlets the strap tore free and I couldn't come up with a quick fix so I used my new water proof "Seal Skinz" gloves instead. I don't mind tellin ya that after a couple of hours my hands were very cold and uncomfortable. I stayed in shallow water so I could keep my arms dryer and only recovered aluminum slaw and bits and pieces of brass and steel along with 3-quarters, 1-nickle and 2 zinc pennies, but I was hunting----Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!

It was raining all day!........mixed with snow!

Yesterday Bobbie!

I guess I forgot to mention that!

Amazing what a couple of shots of "anti-freeze" will do to one's memory!1

Glad to see you got out, even if it was bitter cold. The junk you removed today is junk you won't have to deal with onces the mercury climbs to a more hospitable level.

Cheers Mate,

Good for you CJ! You have got a great attitude. I guess if I couldn't go detecting for a month I would be happy just to get out too, but when I'm braving the elements I kind of expect to be "rewarded" with some good finds! ;) HH!

Thanks for ypur kind replies Fellow Hunters!

This area was supposed to be covered deeply in snow today according to the area's most watched TV weather report.

It's shaping up to be several days of rain it seems.

I have no problem with the TV experts erring on the side of caution and crying "Snow Wolf!!", but I would prefer a more accurate report with an occasional mistake.

The only really accurate, totally reliable weather forcasting method is still the old Native American weather stick!

Hi Mikie,

These gloves are an English import and have come highly recommended as water-proof and great for water hunting and I was under the mis-understanding that they were useful in "cold" water temps such as we have here at this time of year.

I should have had a clue when my hands turned to cakes of icy torment when I wore them while "beach combing" the day after they arrived without even getting them wet!

I then reasoned that they are water-proof gloves and designed for use in the water thus I had mis-used them and my frozen hands were my own fault!

I decided to try them in the water at the first opportunity.

That occurred when my rubber gauntlet shoulder strap tore apart and I hadn't remembered to bring a spare pair along.

I put on the new gloves and waded out into the icy brine and for a short while thought that as long as I stayed in shallow water and briefly submerged the gloves I would be comfortable.

Not so! After a short while my hands were very cold and I started thinking that I might be better off without any gloves at all.

I have never felt this kind of discomfort with my neoprene gloves and should have gone back to the van and put those on for a quick comparison, but I was too far from the van for the time I had to hunt and decided to tough it out.

My opinion is that these new gloves may be great in water temps such as we have in late spring/early summer and maybe they will be useful during the summer as well.

I'll make a point of comparing them with the neoprene gloves at a future hunt.

As I am a wader/dry suit hunter I will either use my gauntlets with wool glove liners or neoprene during these really cold water temps!

Best to Ya Friend,

CJ

PS Heated gloves?
