:usaflag: Interesting (to me anyway) beach sand.

This morning I saw that the sand and light pea gravel have been shaped into a scalloped formation along the beach.

(The top picture was taken at maximum telephoto setting with the little Fuji WP33---I'm learning to like this little camera!!)

The water has been calm for a couple of days and it seems that the gentle wave action as the tide rises and falls has created this formation.

Even at the reduced wave action there are still hydralic dynamics at work and I find it interesting that the result is this scalloping at the waters edge

( George I sized these to 1000 pixels for width and 750 for height.)

Ripple effect looks nice but often its piles of soft sand. Yet where the bigger stones are, I've taken goodies. Ya never know.

One other thing you might want to try if you see a picture you really think would look great, is go to a higher resolution.

Most of the time I take them at 1280 x 960 selection off the camera menu. That lets me get a fair amount of pictures on the Sony Strip card yet they look nice on display here. If you want more sharpness and detail, try on the camera menu going to 2048 x 1536 or even
2560 x 1920. They are big but all that detail is in there. Continue to display it then at the size your using now and you will see even more detail.

Your doing a great job on them. I like the beach shots, makes me want to grab my clam rake and go clamming also. Usually none on the open sea shore but in the protected rivers, really great. My father liked the steamers and we did that at least a few times a week. Summer he also like the quahogs and cherry stones and we would get those with our feet in the mud. The sea clams we would cut up and use for fluke fishing off Stonington Point.

I see we have a few more nice days thru Sunday. Hoping to get out with the detector myself......

Again, nice pictures....

George my Fuji is set at 3492X2019 pixels at the factory and I haven't even tried to find out how to re-adjust that as I am so pleased with the way it takes pictures now.

If some of the pictures I have posted before look "grainy" it is because I took them in poor light or enlarged them too far!

I'm learning.

At that high of resolution, just try the resize down to the size your posting. The less you handle them in the photo programs the better I think. Seems to degrade them some each time they get handled. Might be my imagination also. I use PHotoshop but have others but got used to it so use it more than the others. Your doing a good job with them so no problem doing what your doing.

When you click them they are a nice looking photo, full screen on this LCD wide screen... bright light makes a big difference for sure in anything your trying to stop action on. I know with our dirt bike races I really have to time the shots or often they are not even in the picture. Moving so fast.

take my pictures at the largest setting my camera will take. Memory is cheap now days. In photoshop you can always make them smaller but if you take small pictures so you can get more on your camera you can not blow them up without losing quality.

If you are using WIndows, down load this FREE addon-http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx- It works great and you can resize them with a simple click to small-med- large. I usually post mine large. This is free from windows. You can resize one or a hundred with a simple couple clicks.

Thanks for the info George. I've always had an interest in photography and haven't done much for many years.

I carry the little Water Proof Fuji every time I go to the water because I don't have to worry about it getting ruined by a splash of salt water.

Every time I go to the beach there seems to be at least one nice shot waiting.

It's more of a "point and shoot" camera, but has a lot of versatility for such a tiny camera.

It has a fixed lens (sealed for water-proofing) and zooms electronically.

I'm thrilled with the fact that now I can share some of the things I happen upon in my travels.

Hi Royal,

I just installed it and will try it out on the next pictures I take.

Thanks for the heads up!

This is a shot taken during one of the Nor Easters a few weeks ago.

The waves are pounding a wooden sluiceway that has two large pipes in it to allow a brook to drain into the sound.

(At just about the left edge of the picture and thirty or so feet out into the wate I recovered my wife's second cousin's senior ring after it had been in the water 22 years!)

It is as large as can be posted.

I have been messing around with it so I'm not sure about image quality, but here goes!!

A little blurry, but not as bad as some I've taken over the years!

I think it had more to do with the wind that was trying to knock me over than a camera or photo processing problem.

I'll make an effort not to subject your educated eyes to less than good shots hence forth, I promise!

all you have to do it hilight the pictures you want, left click on them, choose resize pictures and chose the size you want. It will quickly resize them, not changing the originals and put them in the same folder. It is fast and easy. I suggest you chose Large for posting as they are usually under 100k

Good luck

I sure the heck am not a photographer but they allow me to relive some of the best experiences of my life. Some I would have probably have forgotten if I did not have the photos to remind me. I have posted these before but I think it might have been before you joined the forum. I took them when visiting Mike and Alice over several years. The first one is at Edgewood near where Mike lives, in fact that is Mike out there. I took a series of pictures, maybe 17-17 overlapping them. Then I put them into Panorama Factory and it did the magic. Use the scroll bar at the bottom to see the whole thing. The Edgewood picture is the only one that is 360 degrees. Panorama Factory is a great program!!

I think that might be Willy behind me :D

Fine photography Royal!!

You must have been using a tripod as those don't look like your run of the mill snapshots!!

I'm impressed!!

CJ

turn and making sure I overlap a third snap another, turn and snap another and so on and then put them in the program and let it do its magic. I have never used a tripod except for night shots

Mary and I were out west and we had driven up a dang two track rutted road, that we had no business being on and topped out on this mesa. I took some pictures.

A few years later I was looking at them and thought that they were just close enough that I might be able to make a panorama out of them. This is the result. I had no idea of making a pan out of them, I don't even think I knew how back then but it turned out pretty good for an accident. There were 6 or 8 pictures that I took and stitched them. That road down in the valley, Flaming Gorge, was the one we came up on. What a rough ride on a washed out road it was but I wanted to see what was up there :D

This was with an old 2 meg camera

I Googled the Panarama software and they have a free trial, but it has lines in it.

If you want one with no lines it's a $70.00 bite in the wallet!

Maybe when the politicians and lawyers all die and go to hell where they belong I may have the money available for such an expence, but not now!

Really nice results for your efforts though!!

CJ

look around in them. Sure is awesome country. That's what I wished I lived in. No real wilderness around here, but still alot of large tracks of land up this way where you can feel like your in wilderness. Wayne and Mike are in the perfect area if you like big woods. I know I sure would.

Geo

take a series of pictures, overlapping them about 30%, using one axis. You can hand hold. I usuallyu sorta keep the horizon on the same level all the way around. Send them to me in a large format. When you are ready let me know and I will try stitching them for you and send them back. Don't worry about the size. Use http://www.filemail.com/default.aspx It is free and you can load any size you want. Just make sure they are all the same size, right off the camera if you wish.

Thanks for the offer Royal!

I've been thinking that if I could catch a really clear, crisp day a panarama shot of the north shore of Long Island and the south shore of Connecticut would be interesting.

Maybe taken from my boat from the middle of Long Island Sound!

Maybe someday--------?
