:usaflag: Hot Tot Lot

Bill in Texas

New member
:detecting: I was across town today for a little business and stopped at a tot lot (that I had not been to before) on the way home to detect a bit. Well when I turned on the Vaquero I was in for a surprise. It gave me a pulsating tone and I had to turn the Ground balance all the way negative to even come close to being ground balanced. It was not working very well at all. I had my frequency switch right and thought I wonder if a small frequency change would help, so I switched it to the left side. The V settled down and I re-ground balanced it. It did balance this time although it was very much on the negative side of where it usually balances. It still was pulsating slightly, but at once I started reading tin foil, nails and such in the all metal mode, so I started to hunt. The Items below are my good??? finds and I dug about twice that much trash. The one brown Quarter was about 6 inches. Everything else was about 3 or 4 inches, except one penny that was real close to the surface. The item in the middle of the bottom is a very small red colored brass bell. The small (I think Gold) item is a shoe broken off of something or maybe just a small broken drop. I don't think that the Comprade of Silver Umax would have handled this site. I have been told that it had been hunted to death, but I think that there might be some gold there, seeing how hard the site is to hunt. I plan on spending more time there when there are no kids around. Bill in Texas :tesoro:

Hay Bill,

If you got a Compadre, maybe you should bring it along and see how it

does. The Compadre rules the tot lots in central Arkie Land.

I've had semilar things happen with my V. But, like you I was able to

tweek the V enough to get good depth and sensativity.

I've had places that lessen the depth of the Compadre, but I have never

encountered anything that would stop it from working in a tot lot.

Happy Hunting,

Tabdog

Ive had the same problem as you Bill while using a Compadre in a Totlot it suffered from pulsating interference that I think was due to a nearby radio transmitter it must be on the same or similar frequency as the Compadre as the Tejon & Silver worked well at same location without any interference

This tot lot is famous for messing up detectors. I think that it is a microwave tower near by. It is very well hunted and still has a lot of good targets there. I will try the Compadre the next time I go to it. I know that the Silver Umax don't like it. Bill in Texas

Had a problem at the bottom of a "vacant lot" with my Silver..Very bad pulsing.. May have been a big flat screen TV,.. Using the detector as a directional antenna, I was able to determine the signal path..For that section of the yard. I'll try the Vaquero's different frequencies. The house adjoining the lot ,as well as the one next door, dates from the Civil War period..A friend of my wife's, who passed away 20 years ago (late sixties) told me that the local kids used the area for a playground when she was young...Also, the older girls living there took care of the youngsters, as sort of an informal day school..There were a lot of good solid hits above iron. Almost like an unsearched tot lot, that I can chase back almost ninety years...... Have learned long ago, not to get my hopes up ..The really good finds come when you least expect them...Cordially NAD
