:usaflag: Ground balance a must

Bill in Texas

New member
:detecting: I went out fer a little while today and only found a few coins. I took the Compadre and the ground where I was hunting was terrible. It was a gray color and it was killing the Compadre's performance. I first noticed it when I could not read a zinc penny that was on the surface. I set it down to all metal and then it would only read about 1 1/2 inches deep. I thought it had quit on me. I took it to another place where I hunt and it worked fine there. I am going to try that spot again with the Vaquero and see if I can get it ground balanced and set up to read deeper. I'll bet I can. Bill in Texas

Hay Bill,

This may sound a bit weard. But,

I wanted to hunt a parking lot at tha local high school.
It was covered with coares, greay crushed gravel.

Usually, this gravel won't be to bad, but tha gravel in
that parkin lot was awful. I could not ground balance.
I knew I wasn't getting any depth.

Finally, I got a target I wanted to be able to find. (used
a small thing I found. I can't remember what).

I put it on tha gravel. Then I waved tha coil over it and
adjusted tha ground balance at tha same time. When
I got it to where I could get my best response, I started
getting depth.

I found a tiny gold chain that was waded up, crushed
and had a clasp on it.

I found a ring, coins and of course, trash.

It helps to be persistant sometimes.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

OK, this brings up a problem my hunting partner and I have been having and discussing.....

We both use Tejons.
We hunt in places where there is NO place that there isn't metal in the ground. NO PLACE!

How do you ground balance in these areas?

In our area of FL there is very little mineralization, so we theorized that the GB set halfway would be OK........ LOL

We also marked off a spot, turned on the machines and just went to all metal/pinpointing all the targets we could find, until no targets were found. When we visit this spot we GB over this cleaned spot. This works obviously and now we do this at every trashy spot when we start to hunt. No turn on and go like a ShadowX2 hahaha.

Always check with all metal/pinpoint mode to see if there is a target of any type under and around the spot you are going to ground balance on.

I do the same thing with my Tejon. You have to find a clean spot first to balance to. Did you have the stock coil on it and if so, have you ever used your Tejon with the smaller coil ? If not, you gotta get one. It's amazing.
