Old Burkeville is acres and acres of fields that have been detected for years, but the area is so big that no one gets it all. My first good find was this fired Spencer round. You know, this all reminds me of something Mountain Man and I were talking about; those new ads for detectors that come out in a big write-up in a detecting magazine. You know the story, some writer guy takes this new, just off the market, hot shot detector, and goes out to this place that's "been hammered hard for 30 years", and low and behold, look what this new detector has found that all the other detectors have missed... what a bunch of hooey! Just nobody ever swung over it... End of explanation!

Shortly thereafter, I got an Indian head nickel.

Dug this hand forged rusty headed hoe (hope I don't get fired for saying that). I carried it around in my pouch for a while, then I found a 3 pound ax head, put that in my pouch, pretty soon my pants are falling off. So I laid them both on a stump and left them, it was a mile back to the car... that's the same mile I ran after having that 3-shot espresso last year.

There was an old spring in the woods. I tried detecting around that, but things were pretty dead.

Here's my meager finds for the day, Spencer round and Spencer case. The thing on the top would have been cool if was all intact. It is the right side of a lion's head, what you see is the mane and one ear at the top. This must have been pretty cool before it was all busted up. There's a possible top to a compass case, and a couple of whatchamacallits.
Thanks for takin' a gander.
