:usaflag: Gold is Where You Find It!! (something I just posted on the Beach Forum)

Yesterday I stopped for lunch at a local Chinese eatery and as I walked across the parking lot I found this nice bit of gold. I realize that this isn't a "beach or diving" find, but the point I wish to offer is still valid.

One must have an awareness of his (or her) surroundings if some lost valuables are to be found!

This little 18K earring with 4 small diamonds would still be laying there, or in someone else's possession, if I hadn't been watching for just such a find!

Last year several small items of value found their way into my ditty bag when I spied them peeking out of the sand on the beach even though I wasn't "hunting" at the time!

They were laying on a heavily hunted stretch of beach and had been missed by some fine detector swingers too even though they were visible to an allert eye.

You may say that I was just lucky and I would agree, but all the luck in the world is not going to help much if you aren't looking!

I hope to find the owner, but if not this little thing is heavy enough to be a welcome addition to my catch!

I make it a habit of always looking at the ground or pavement....two years ago I found fifty dollars neatly folded in a parking lot of the grocery store. You will always find some pocket change in parking lots and over a period of time you will be surprised how much it amounts to. Kelley (Texas) :)

I stopped by the restaurant where I thought the person that lost the earring might have gone. I reasoned it was the only business in the plaza where a woman might want to dress up. I asked the owner and head waitress to pass on my info to anyone looking for a gold earring.

This evening my door-bell rang and there stood a neighbor I have known over 30 years and in his hand was the mate to the jewel I had found! He said he had been told at the restaurant that I had found it and when he was offered my card he told them he didn't need it as we were neighbors! (He tiled my upstairs bathroom!)

The one I found will need minor repair, but at least it is now back in the hands of the owner and my stash is a tiny bit lighter so I'll have to go hunting again soon!
