After I got the SIB ready for a trial run I spent a couple of hours on the beach at mid tide removing junk and a few clad coins.

Part of one silver earring topped the list of keepers!

Digging was no problem with the box out front.

I'm still learning what the GT is saying and picked every bottle cao and piece of aluminum as such, but found the snap tops to be a challenge.

The digging was easy due to many of the targets being exposed or nearly so by the recent rain and tides so I dug 'em all!! (At least any ???? signals!)

Next Sov post will be about SIB's water performance!

GL&HH Friends,

CJ

You are smart to dig all, , and that thingy you made is great?""

GM I have been using the settings recommended by several hunters on this and other forums as "standard".

I am more of a "turn on and hunt" kinda guy and haven't spent a lot of time messing with what seems to work just fine for me.

I turn on this rig, slip the harness over my head and secure the waist strap and go.

The only adjustments after that are to the earphone volume controls.

I'm pretty sure I'll find the need for different settings in the water and will search the forums for info to avoid a lot of opening and closing the case which will ultimately lead to leaks. (Unlike regular water machines, this rig will require opening and closing every time I hunt.)

I leak tested the closed case under a foot of water for 5+ hours today with no leaks. but plan to avoid hunting with the unit at that depth.

I'm more concerned with splashing and very brief submersion and am thinking about looking for a flood alert that will fit the case. (There are some small ones out there and it makes sense to have one in the box.)

Gunnar, I'm glad you like it Friend! I followed the lead of several other Hunters and so far am quite pleased with the results.

nice job on the box cj...glad to hear its working out for you......i used to take chances with my gt in the knee high surf......i was lucky i never slipped or got waffled by a rogue wave.....i stick to the excal if in water..... just curious, does the gt head in the sealed box sink or float or is it kind of nuetral....... well best of luck with it.....you are already a buck and a half closer to paying it off...... happy huntin

I find that I make more adjustments while beach hunting with the Sovereign when I am using a larger coil. I turn up the sensitivity as far as I can while remaining stable. But when I hit the coil on the wet sand or encounter water the bigger coils false more. Maybe it is me just trying to run too hot. But I find the 10 inch coil quieter than the others. I feel confident that I could set it and forget it more easily with the stock coil.

With my 10 inch Tornado you get falseing going from the water to the wet and vice versa, but you know what it is. Targets sound off. In the water its absolutely smooth. I only regretted not setting my discrimination a little higher, everything else was set and forget.
