Less than five minutes in the water and twenty feet from the shore this beauty finds its way into my sifter!!

14K and flawless white gold!!

It's been a month and a half dry spell for me and I hunted many hours during that period.

Three more hours and I had recovered the usual can slaw etc.

And the usual few coins, a little fishing tackle, a couple of small bullets and pieces of brass hardware.

These targets were recovered from a boulder field of huge stones, many too large to move.

Some targets are lost down between the stones and can't be reached.

This is the most difficult digging I have ever encountered.

Every one of the recovered targets was Dual Field found and Diablo dug!!

Sorry...not my find...lol
I do that a lot too...get the last posters name stuck in my head...lol

HH,

Nice ring, congrats!

Well Friends, since I found that wedding band I found a tiny old gold ring with a very small diamond and then the gold mine dried up again!

Several feet of sand washed in by our recent storm don't help and I am really watching things to catch it when hunting improves.

I'll let you know when hunting gets better.

GL&HH,

CJ

Great find there, nothing like seeing gold in the sifter. congrats on that fine gold, hh:thumbup:

I would have thought that the storm would have dragged sand from deeper out that you could not have reached before...Is that NOT a good thing???

HH,

Hi Alvin and Go Go,

Thanks for your replies!

Sand movement seems to be related to different dynamics here as we have what is a fairly protected body of water in Long Island Sound.

For a brief overnight blow I have seen literally millions of tons of sand move up onto a section of beach to five or six feet deep while stripping sand from a section a hundred yards away!

The hurricane raised the beach level locally in most places above the water line several feet overall and left an additional foot or so covering the bottom out in the water!

Had the wind/wave combo hit from a slightly different direction the sand could have been stripped away exposing all those great targets that are now un-reachable.

Winter tides and north winds usually clear away enough sand to improve hunting, but constant monitoring is necessary to know when conditions are right for great hunting.

For over a year in the '80s much of our local beaches were paved with a cobble stone floor and offered excellent hunting.

Today those areas are covered with several feet of sand!

CJ
