I stopped at a coin shop yesterday to look at some machines he had.

They had what I think is an older model of the Excalibur and I bought it.

I've never used a ML unit before, but have years of experience with other machines.

There was no direction booklet and the coil shows slight scuffing otherwise it looks brand new.

The legend on the side says Excalibur without the later number designation denoting coil size.

The coil looks a bit like a horseshoe.

Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

CJ

One biggie---How long to charge the battery.

Also where can I find setup and use instructions?

Another question occurred to me----Since I'm sure this is an older model, can someone inform me about changes that may have improved the Excal?

Are there any things I need to avoid to keep from wrecking the unit?

What should I have paid for it?

Hey CJ,

I paid 800.00 for same detector 4 years ago. I also picked another one alot cheaper. I think it is one of the best detectors out there and the best for the beach. The horse shoe coil is the best. Goes well in the water and goes deep. The setup is volume all the way discrim at zero and the sense well mess around with it. I think it works will in auto and manual. I think the setting has to do with the speed you are detecting. I usually charge the batt all night and it seems to last a while. Probably can go download a manual from minelab. Very nice detector and disciminates very well. HH

Great detector! You made a good choice on the Excal. I got 2 off of Ebay, an 800, and 1000 for about 500 each. They have paid for themselfs in a couple {summer} hunts at the beach. The Horseshoe one has better headphone tones, I would get CJC's Books on the Excal on this Mod, {Peltor H10a.. Ebay 22 dollars} , infact I would recommend all of his books on the Excal . Plus, We has his backup Tech on the Beach And Water detecting Forum....GulfHunter. You have PI Hunting experence so if you hunt all metal { like I do } this will be a good advanage for you. I have a 3 Vid's on Youtube, they may help you some, This Hunting is good for Deep Hunting, And where there is not alot of trash. Make yourself a Long shaft for it, cost about 25 dollars, { speedymetal on Ebay, Alum tube 7/8inch OD x .049 wall 6061 15 dollars..shipped ........Bike shop , End Bar Handle 10 dollars for 2} I think you will be very Happy with this One...

What did you pay for it? You don't have a history so you likely need a new battey. Which can be found on e-bay.
Leave it on charge overnight.

You won't wreck it! It lasted this long. Have fun:thumbup: And welcome to Minelab.

Hey Bruce,

The battery seems to have taken a charge OK!

I'll know better when I have a chance to run it through its paces.

Thanks for your reply Friend.

I have felt for some time now that if I don't try out an ML machine I I won't have a well rounded knowledge in detecting.

Come on Spring and nice weather!!
